Paint.NET v3.20 is now available!
mickiscoole replied to Rick Brewster's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Yay for new release. in other news: You've been slashdotted -
Just a small annoyance, But when changing the defaults for tools etc. the primary and secondary colours get changed back to the startup values of black and white. Reproducing steps: 1. Change colours to anything except the black/white startup colours (just so we can show that the colours actually change) 2. Open the 'Change Defaults' dialog in the tools menu. 3. Press save. 4. The colours should return to the black/white startup colours

What are pixel sizes for A4 paper?
mickiscoole replied to Hinny's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
The point I was trying to make was that if you wanted to use one of the standard sizes, you would have to go on the internet, look it up, and then enter it manually. The presets would be only an alternative for people who haven't memorised the numbers. -

It would be nice if the 'new' dialog had some sort of presets so that people didnt have to ask about these things. -
Quick preview of upcoming Beta 1 release
mickiscoole replied to Rick Brewster's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Now lets have an indepth look at that comment, shall we? As Beta 1 will be feature locked, this "something else" can't actually be related to PDN itself, so my prediction is a remodel of the PDN website, or something related to it. -
OMG I CANT BELIEVE THAT YOU COULDNT FIND IT!!!!!!!111!!!!one! ahem. sorry. Click the "tool" dropdown box at the top left corner of the window, and click chose defaults.

Feature suggestion for Paint.NET

After a day of trying to crash pdn, i thought i had tried everything. I tried to open every image on my computer, tried to open a notepad document with a .jpg extension, and so on. but none of them failed. but as I was about to give up, i decided to make an incredibly big image, and got : This text file was created because Paint.NET crashed. Please e-mail this file to paint.net@hotmail.com so we can diagnose and fix the problem. Application version: Paint.NET v3.0 (Alpha 1 Release build 3.0.2477.19867) Time of crash: 14/10/2006 6:18:11 PM Application uptime: 00:16:18.1718750 OS Version: 5.1.2600.131072 Service Pack 2 Workstation x86 .NET Framework version: 2.0.50727.42 x86 Processor: 1x AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ Physical memory: 1023 MB Locale: reg: n/a, cc: en-AU, cuic: en-AU Exception details: System.OutOfMemoryException: CreateDIBSection returned NULL (8) while attempting to allocate 9999x7499 bitmap at PaintDotNet.SystemLayer.Memory.AllocateBitmap(Int32 width, Int32 height, IntPtr& handle) at PaintDotNet.MemoryBlock.Allocate(Int32 width, Int32 height, IntPtr& handle, Boolean allowRetry) at PaintDotNet.MemoryBlock.Allocate(Int32 width, Int32 height, IntPtr& handle, Boolean allowRetry) at PaintDotNet.MemoryBlock..ctor(Int32 width, Int32 height) at PaintDotNet.Surface..ctor(Int32 width, Int32 height) at PaintDotNet.Surface..ctor(Size size) at PaintDotNet.DocumentWorkspace.OnDocumentChanged() at PaintDotNet.DocumentView.DocumentSetImpl(Document value) at PaintDotNet.DocumentView.set_Document(Document value) at PaintDotNet.AppWorkspace.CreateBlankDocumentInNewWorkspace(Size size, MeasurementUnit dpuUnit, Double dpu, Boolean isInitial) at PaintDotNet.Actions.NewImageAction.PerformAction(AppWorkspace appWorkspace) at PaintDotNet.AppWorkspace.PerformAction(AppWorkspaceAction performMe) at PaintDotNet.AppWorkspace.CommonActionsStrip_ButtonClick(Object sender, EnumValueEventArgs e) at PaintDotNet.CommonActionsStrip.OnButtonClick(CommonAction action) at PaintDotNet.CommonActionsStrip.OnItemClicked(ToolStripItemClickedEventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStrip.HandleItemClick(ToolStripItem dismissingItem) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem.HandleClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem.HandleMouseUp(MouseEventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem.FireEventInteractive(EventArgs e, ToolStripItemEventType met) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem.FireEvent(EventArgs e, ToolStripItemEventType met) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStrip.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs mea) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmMouseUp(Message& m, MouseButtons button, Int32 clicks) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ScrollableControl.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStrip.WndProc(Message& m) at PaintDotNet.SystemLayer.ToolStripEx.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ the thing is, i just tried to recreate the crash again, but got an error message that i didn't have enough memory and didn't crash. Also, i thought i might suggest a few things about 3.0 1) The multiple image save dialog looks great, but the single image save popup box doesn't by comparison. in the interests of consistancy and user friendliness, wouldn't it be better to change the single save dialog to be similar, with descriptions etc., to the multi image save dialog 2) now that there is a context toolbar, it could save some room in the tools window by combining the rectangle and the circle select to one tool, and allowing the user to change the shape in the toolbar instead EDIT: also, is the Line/Curve tool supposed to use the secondary colour?

Paint.NET v2.72 is now available
mickiscoole replied to Rick Brewster's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Is there any reason that getpaint.net only has the text "hello world" on it and therefore we can't view the pictures? -
What i'm requesting is a selection brush, where it acts like a normal paintbrush, but what you "draw" becomes the selection, or adds to the selection. I would find this much easier than having to use the lassoo tools many times or the magic wand brush for different coloured selections.

Rick, i notice that in the new pictures of 3.0 there is an extra tool, a hand tool. what does it do? and plans for implementation of other tools? ( I won't say what ones i'm thinking of, in case i start sounding like george.) -

Paint.NET v2.63 is now available
mickiscoole replied to Rick Brewster's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
I'm going to say this so NOONE ELSE HAS TO! Wheres the Airbrush?Wheres the magnetic lassoo? wheres the thing that will be exactly the same as photoshop, only free-er? Yes I do realise that he said it was an early alpha. It actually looks quite good. nice to see MDI in the corner there, will make PDN so much better now. Keep up the good work I only wrote those things above so that those things were written, and so (hopefully) those people who were going to ask those questions maybe now wont. -
Paint.NET as image viewer?
mickiscoole replied to nonick's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
maybe some sort of an image tray down the bottom, so you can quickly open images -
you can actually play the game in third person if you want.... just open the developers console (on PC this is) and type in thirdperson. to get back to first person just type firstperson. and for the record he doesn't have a cape
