  1. Use the "Clone Stamp Tool". It basically copies a small area from one part of an image to another part. See the help file if you don't understand, or read: http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewt ... t=clone%2A http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewt ... t=clone%2A
  2. At least with my keyboard, I've noticed that both keys can be held at the same time, and both have their individual effects, but at the same time. It would still be nice to only have to hold one key to navigate an image.
  3. The ability to zoom with the mouse scrollwheel while holding Control is nice. The ability to pan an image while holding Spacebar is nice. However, switching between Control and Spacebar while zooming in/out and panning an image to look at details gets confusing, and I start using the wrong key to do the thing I'm trying to do. Perhaps these two shortcuts could both be bound to the Spacebar? Thus, holding down the Spacebar would allow the Scrollwheel to zoom and the Mousebuttons to pan.
  4. Yeah...freeform usually means that if you click spots, it selects with lines between the clicked spots, but if you drag the mouse, it works like Paint.net's lasso tool. This has been requested several times, but there are simple workarounds (http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=968).
  5. Yes, Bob, good idea. I've been meaning to mention this as a request for a while. More keyboard shortcuts for layers would be nice. Perhaps shortcuts to do the following would be nice: Move a layer up (perhaps Ctrl+Up Key) Move a layer down (perhaps Ctrl+Down Key) Select the layer above the one currently selected (perhaps Ctrl+Page Up) Select the layer below the one currently selected (perhaps Ctrl+Page Down) It also might make sense to use the Insert key or a modification of it (Ctrl, Alt, Shift, etc.) as the keyboard shortcut for making a new layer that is added above or below the currently selected layer. Also, the ability to drag layers around in the Layers dialog in order to change their level would be nice.
  6. Rick talked about that in the interview. I'm wondering if he has anything he's thinking about that he hasn't mentioned or we haven't suggested (even if it isn't planned for any coming releases).
  7. "I have a lot of cool things I can talk about but no concrete designs yet." -Rick Brewster (BetaNews interview) So...what sort of "cool things"? We'd love to hear what your ideas are, even though they aren't concrete design plans. I'm assuming some of these are the hard-to-implement suggestions some of us have had, but I wonder if you have had any interesting ideas of your own. Have you? I can't wait to see the next Beta version become available!
  8. True; I think everyone wants it. I'm assuming it's a challenge to implement.
  9. I also did this...I made a big, 24x30 collage (I also spent hours), and I found I could not print it to size. Instead, I broke the image up into 8x10 sections, and printed these out one-by-one, and then I assembled them as a poster. Obviously, there are some quality issues here, as it would be much nicer to print onto a single, large sheet, but for what I needed, this method worked great. Neil's browser trick works too...
  10. Oh...I see the problem. When you hit Shift, it constrains it to the original ratio...you cannot simply resize the selection, and then expect this new ratio to hold. So, when making the initial selection, you must get the correct ratio at this time. Then, the Shift key gets the job done. Rick Brewster, it might make more sense to make the ratio used by the Shift key update when you use the handles to resize a selection, and not to remain at the ratio of the original selection.
  11. There is a way to do this. Select an area (if you can get it to be the proper ratio at this time, go for it). Next, click on the "Move Selection" tool, which is down and to the right from the "Rectangle Select" tool. Now, either adjust the arrows until you get the right ratio, or go on to the next step if you have the ratio already. To resize the selection, and keep the ratio, hold down Shift on your keyboard while dragging one of the handles. This preserves the ratio of the selection box. Then just crop it...
  12. Indeed; quite acceptable. Cold start here is 3-4 seconds, hot start is 1-2. Pentium 4 HT 3.0 GHz, 1GB RAM. Also, my anti-virus is the new Windows OneCare. Masu, what is your startup time?
  13. It is important to also note that Tripod is smiling! :-)
  14. The processor/ram looks fine (pretty good, actually). The AntiVir might be scanning the file as you open it. I've noticed that Norton makes stuff like Microsoft Word (and Word files) open like 2x longer because it's scanning for viruses. Try Rick's #2 suggestion...Defragmenting is different from Reformatting (I've seen many people mis-read it)...it doesn't hurt the computer at all, but it does help your harddrive access files faster.
  15. Now, Chew, there's no reason to start arguments. Paint.net is nothing to fight over. You've all heard this before, but try following it: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
  16. Which ones represent which developers? lol... Nice drawings.
  17. Lol... Unfortuanetly, the lower human tolerance goes down, the greater the world that gets affected. In Paint.net, the higher the tolerance goes, the larger the area affected.
  18. Yes, you wouldn't want to be roundhouse-kicked by Chuck Norris over such matters.
  19. Yes, I've found that this might be nice...I cannot see where it would be placed, however. I don't know what this phpBB allows either.
  20. The grid, currently, can only be spaced at 1 pixel increments. It seems to have little use this way, but so does the Pencil tool. Some people do very low-resolution work, and it is helpful for these people. Since the spacing is always 1 pixel, there is no real "Grid Snap". I guess if there is a grid spacing option introduced at some time, there will be a grid snap option as well (or at least I hope there would be).
  21. Currently, the only real brush settings are the Brush Width, Antialiasing, and Alpha Blending. When additional features like feathering are introduced, I'm sure there will be a separate toolbar or window.
  22. Yes, undockable (and hide-able) toolbars at the top of the window would be nice, however I don't have any absolute need for this ability.
  23. It works how you say it should for the Brush and the Pencil. Are you referring to the Recolor tool? Also, if your problem persists, you can click the little bent double arrow next to the two colors to swap the colors.
  24. This is probably an issue with your computer. How much memory do you have? What is your processor speed? Do you have any anti-virus software running?
