Windows 10 Home #1709 16299.15 found it's way onto this computer. Classic paint.net runs with no problems.

Do you have a crash log? Click gear icon upper right corner of the program next to the '?mark', then click Diagnostics, then click 'Open crash log folder', someone here is sure to help if you're having a problem. My paint.net is 4.0.19

Chuckle... In my fantasy the performance updates are locked down during the free major updates. All the other updates "Virus definition, Adobe, various viewer etc. all update. This begger is not choosey. Swankyfrank

I have kind of the same issue, Windows when updating hangs at 30% every time but only on restart. I can't force a restart from the menu choices but I can shutdown and then restart. Machine and all programs are fine otherwise. Windows 10 Home 1703 15063.674. 1st & 2nd try with the classic install message here was that it couldn't decompress the file. 3rd try 4.18 went in. .

Bob , can the saved svg files be opened with note pad, and do they have a height & width attribute listed? You may be able to resize from there. Then do whatever you have to do.

I'm having no problems with the newest paint.net and the newer Windows10 update.

I can't draw a straight line with paint brush to save my life. While the program is loading I pull the mouse across the canvas, and that is the result. The last plugin I used was ShapeMaker, yesterday. I hope I'm not splitting hairs

Emy, I was having issues not related to yours, what I did was, went to add & remove programs, removed the program, then deleted the folder (paint.net) in Program files, reinstalled Paint.Net from the web site as per the the forum guidelines. My installer asked if I wanted to allow this program to make changes, agreed, Paint.net installed but the agree box was still up so I clicked no, I'm not having any problems now but I have to get around to reinstalling all the plugins. I'm on the Anniversary edition of Windows 10 Wish you luck and hope to see some of your work here.

Darned if I know. I'd follow up on that last post. So far I've seen something about Windows Update which I don't have a link to, and enabling hidden fonts in 7 http://www.emreakkas.com/windows-tips/how-to-enable-hidden-fonts-in-windows-7 All very time consuming and frustrating. That's a good luck from me, maybe someone else here can pick up, but Windows answers may be your best bet.

Far from a chef here but Mayura Draw would probably let you add nodes to a freehand curve, export as SVG or whatever, screenshot, simmer in Paint.NET.
