  1. Paint.NET is zipped up. There no problem with the file at all as everyone else can download it. If your computer wont let you download it then the problem is on your end not Paint.NET end. You can't except people to know whats wrong with your computer. If this was a Paint.NET problem then sure we may get somewere but it's not as the program is not even on your system. So your problem could be setting for zip files, an option to auto save files to a folder without giving you the save / open box, port blocking, filetype blocking, lost packets, lack of permissions. Who knows what be done to your computer. For all we know you could be clicking the link next to the download button instead of the download image on the download page. Here's what i going to do. Click the link below and tell me if it works http://www.dotpdn.com/files/Paint.NET.3.36.zip If not then try this link (Temporary) (This link is now removed by HITMAN-X-) Tell if any of the links work. If any of them do which one so I can try and explain what your computer problem is. both files are Paint.NET.
  2. There is notthing wrong with the downloaded files. It is Adobe on your system. For some reason it has been told to try and open zip files which it can't do as it's a PDF reader. Right click the zip file and go to Open With and see if in the list of programs if there one called Compressed (Zipped) Folders. If so click it and use that to unzip the file. You should have it as it a default zip program that was put into XP and I don't see any reason why they would of removed when making Vista.
  3. No SP1 means service pack 1 of the .NET Framework 3.5. I see your using Vista which has .NET Pre-installed already. You should not have to download it but you will need to turn it on. This may be the reason it giving you the message. It may be installed but if it not enabled then it just like it not being there at all.
  4. take a look at this tutorial viewtopic.php?f=15&t=25081. Play around with it and use gold instead of green. You may also want to forget about using the sharpen step in it if you don't like the effect of the eye after that.
  5. Thats because of the Save As dialog box using thumb nails. You have Video files in the same folder that need DivX. So DivX is doing the video thumb nails. Best thing to do is move all your video files to another folder that you wont be saving images in. This will stop DivX from loading up when doing a save as. It will also save you from the Save As crash error that DivX has been known for.
  6. I don't say he will need to re-install Windows. For all we know some other program could of turned it off in Services under Administration Tools or something. However I did find his "Whoa there!" funny . When buying a computer, the 1st thing that one must come to understand is it more like buying a 10 year old car. There going to be problems. A format / uninstall of the OS and all its data from a hard drive is going to need to be done. Invest in a hard drive(s) for saving work too and one just for an OS. I do this as I format every 3 months or so just to keep windows working the way it should. I use my 150 GB Raptor for OS and games. I then use a 500 GB drive for saving too and a 750 GB drive for making backups of my 500 GB Hard drive and 30 GB iPod with space left over.
  7. No it just your computer. You should post in T&BR about the problem your having with your .NET Framework as Paint.NET runs on 2.0 and higher. I am using 3.0 and 3.0 is the only .NET Framework I have. I don't got 2.0 or 1.0 and Paint.NET works fine. On the college computers I set up I installed 2.0 and Paint.NET works fine on it. On my laptop I use 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, as I got other programs that need 1.1 and 2.0. This is a problem with your computer not Paint.NET. I would uninstall all .NET Frameworks from your computer and I would then make sure I am logged on as an Administrator as you wont be able to install .NET Framework and Paint.NET with out admin powers. I would then download and install .NET Framework 2.0 ( Download ) and try Paint.NET again. Note if your using Vista you may need to tell it to run the .NET Framework.
  8. It only been one day. It not because you never had a crash log. It because everyone else has to do life things 1st. There are no support team (Even though I like to be in it as I post here the most). No one is getting paid to help people with there Paint.NET problems and Rick works a job as well as trying to keep up with everything on the forums. If I got to your post in time, the common thing I would of asked you as you had no crash log would be to take a pic of the debug part of the error message so I could look up the error code. The 2nd thing would of been to do a .NET Framework repair and a PDN repair which from the sounds of your post would of worked. The 3rd thing would of been to make sure you got to right .NET Framework and the full version as the newer .NET frameworks like 3.0 and 3.5 can be download as addons to an other dot net just so you wont need the full file. Comments like that are all over the Troubleshooting & Bug Reports part of the forum. I am happy you got it working but remember some things take time. You should be happy with how fast your getting a respone from people not getting paid to troubleshoot because I seen company take weeks to respone to paying customers. EG: My cable company.
  9. So was the problem with the array or was it something else ?
  10. hmm, no admin rights should not be the problem if the fonts are working in other programs. Could you tell me the names of the fonts so I could go and download them and test them out.
  11. hmm could this have something to do with it ? System.IndexOutOfRangeException: Index was outside the bounds of the array. Was this array preset by Rick or was it set using variables to find out how big the array should be on it's own.
  12. System spec's Error message you get when you go to file open and pick the image Paint.NET version DDS version as I believe it still a plugin download.
  13. Ok 1st thing is to restart Paint.NET by closing out and reopening. Now when you use the font tool the font list picks Arial 1st so there could be fonts above that. So move the scroll bar up to the very top and then look down the list.
  14. Yup, Now I will tell you why you had the problem. As Rick posted you deleted Paint.NET and never really uninstalled it. You can't delete its files or program folder. Paint.NET keeps its install information in your system registry. So even though Paint.NET is not there it thinks it is and wont let you install another Paint.NET untill the other one is removed. But in order to remove the other one from registry now, you have to use that tool I gave you. So in the long run just remember to use Add/Remove Programs and not to delete anything from Paint.NET before doing that.
  15. Open the crash log in notepad and then right click and pick select all. Then copy all selected text. Now on the forums click code and put the copyed text between them code tags so it lookes like ([ code]Crash log text[/code ]). I got a feeling it may be another shell problem but I to sleepy. Post your log.
  16. Download and run this: http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;290301 Find Paint.NET on its list and remove it using the tool. Now try to install your downloaded copy of Paint.NET once again. If it still don't work after that you will need to see if your .NET Framework is ok.
  17. Code_Ember you did the right thing I think by asking if people want a tutorial before posting it. I thank you and I am sure that the mods like that you asked 1st before doing it. Could you clear it up for me as I don't seem to under stand what the tutorial would be about. When you say inspirations do you mean your going to grab a bunch of images and point out details in them ? If thats it, then it may be something for the picogram. I just not sure how it would be a tutorial.
  18. Look under the Window drop down list for Reset Window Locations and for windows that you can close and open. Also when your in Paint.NET you may not know this but F1 will open a help file with answers to questions just like this. PS: Read the rules on the forums as your post will be locked for breaking them if you don't go by them. viewtopic.php?f=20&t=3446
  19. There are many reason Save As may stop working. The common one I see is video files in the samw folder that your trying to save to. The other one I have seen and have had myself was other programs stopping Save As for Paint.NET. I had a version of AIM that did it and when I uninstalled it, Save As worked again. I now got another copy of AIM and don't got the problem. I will post a few topics of Save As problem going from problems the user made and problems from other programs. File Name Error Shell Extension My Own Save As Problem Reinstall Fix DivX Video Files Office 2007
  20. It does that to show whats in focus. However you can turn it off. Click on the dialog box title bar (This is the bar with the name of the dialog box and the close button for that dialog box). Now go to the Window dropdown list and uncheck translucent. Do the same for the rest of the windows and that should fix your problem. EG: Click the tilte bar tools and then go to the top of Paint.NET were the drop down menus are and click windows then uncheck translucent. Now the tools window should be soild now.
  21. Ya that why I wanted to find the post by Pyro as Rick talks about some colors not not being able to do I believe.
  22. I hope these can anwser your question. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=22312 viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3067 I was looking for a post by Pyro on this were Rick went into great detail on the matter but I was unable to find it.
  23. Ok this does not sound like Paint.NET but a nasty virus or program. Run a Virus scan (A good one, AVG Free may not be the best one to pick as it wont do a rootkit). After that use a adware remover. Now find the install folder of Paint.NET and look for pdn repair tool and use it to repair Paint.NET. Open Paint.NET and go to save as. As soon as the Save As dialog box pops up hit the Print Screen key on your keyboard. Now if it crashs go to Paint (Not Paint.NET) and hit Ctrl+V to paste the screenshot. Up load it so we can see were it is pointing to and how it displays icons so we can rule out DivX.
  24. updating through proxy has been known before for giving errors. Best thing to do is go to the download page and download the new version. Then go to add/remove programs. Remove the old Paint.NET and install the new version. Other then that, ya I to think Paint.NET should have proxy options just like many other programs. EG: AVG Virus Scanner has options for it so it can get updates. Who knows maybe it already in the making or maybe Rick will think about it.
