    Thanks guys, you were correct: I was running a beta version. I uninstalled the version I was running and went back to 5.0.13. Hopefully this should end the notification to install the next beta.

    In SETTINGS / UPDATES, I have turned off (un-checked) the option "Also check for pre-release (beta) versions of paint.net" but I frequently keep getting pop-ups notifying me that a new beta version is available. I would appreciate if someone could verify that this check-box works correctly and does in fact quit sending notifications of beta versions when it is un-checked.
