Windows found the 22H2 version and I got it installed. Here is my current install summary. Unfortunately, paint.net still fails within a few seconds after loading. I get the same errors in the event viewer for the Application and .net files. Let me know if you have any more suggestions. Thanks, Greg

I'm all up to date as far as Windows Updates says. However, nothing has changed as far as the version. I will check again over the next few days and see if anything changes. Thanks, Greg

I am not sure about how to check for all the software packages that you mentioned so I reinstalled windows within settings (System - Recovery - Reset PC). This removed all of my apps and should reset my PC back to default conditions. After the re-install it came back with windows 11 S (not the original 10 S). I downloaded paint.net from the store and installed it. Unfortunately, all is still the same. Paint.net powers up for a few seconds and then closes. The event viewer shows the same sets of errors. I proceeded to download all of the windows updates but paint.net still fails within a few seconds of loading. I'm not going to load any other apps at this point with the hopes you can suggest something else for me to try. Is it of any significance that this laptop is a Dell Inspirion? Thanks again, Greg

Thank you for continuing to investigate. One thing that I've noticed that I haven't noted is that Paint.net used to work on this machine. I've only had this laptop a few months since my older computer crashed and needed to be replaced. As purchased, it was running Windows 10 S. I just don't know what has changed in the past month to have it stop working. I've had a few system updates since then and since paint.net started failing, I've also gone through a variety of uninstalls and install of paint.net. Lastly, upgraded to windows 11 S as another try to fix on my end. Let me know if there is anything you think I should or can do. I don't know if or how to get back to the exact configuration when I purchased the laptop and installed paint.net when it was working. Again, thanks for your help, Greg

I've tried uninstalling paint.net and then reloading it from the microsoft store as well as multiple reboots. However, paint.net consistently fails to start with the event viewer error of the application along with the following .net error also from the event viewer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, because I am running in S mode, I can't run any program that isn't loaded from the store. See attached screenshot. I could turn S mode off but it is a one-way switch. Once off, no turning back on. Paint.net used to work until recently, and I would expect anyone else running windows 10/11 in S mode will have the same problem. I like the extra security of S mode and I might have to get another computer just to get paint.net working if no one has a solution since I really need paint.net for work.

My paint.net continues to fail on startup. I've tried rebooting, and updating the program from the Microsoft store. Was running 5.0.8410 which also was failing in the same way based on the "event viewer". I don't know what else to do since I'm running Windows 10 S so I can only load apps from the store.
