  1. One person fixed this by unchecking Hardware accelerated rendering in Settings. Let us know whether this helps.
  2. Just now the link downloaded for me, no problem. Sometimes a problem link will work if you do this: Right-click Open in new tab
  3. I suspect that making changes that would allow the rotation of unfinished text would be major coding headache, and there are many other potential changes with a higher priority. There are changes to the program that I would like to happen. Others have there own wish-lists. Ultimately Rick will decide how he wants paint.net to develop. I suggest that you create a .pdn file and name it Reminders. Use the Text tool to note things that you might forget. Then when you return to paint.net after a long absence, you can read all the tips and notes that you have recorded.
  4. Starting with a black line on a new layer above a colored background. Linear gradient in Transparency Mode created the jagged line with white bumps added.
  5. It doesn't matter what the bottom layer is named. What is important is that the map image is the bottom layer and all editing is done on new layers above the map layer. No editing on the map layer itself. If the Paint Bucket fills the entire layer it means that there is a break in the outline. The outline has to be a closed loop.
  6. The video showed one single layer. To continue on, make a new layer, and continue with the next smaller sized area, repeating the process.
  7. Make a New Layer above your background image. With the color of your choice draw the outline of the largest area and fill it using the Paint Bucket tool. On the keyboard, press F4. Set the Blend Mode to Multiply. Reduce the Opacity to what looks good to you. Repeat with each smaller area. Use a New Layer each time. ==================================== For the edge effect, for each layer, Magic Wand the transparent section outside of the colored part. Make a New Layer, set to Multiply Blend Mode. Fill the selection with a darker version of the color that you are using. Deselect and apply Gaussian blur. Make the lower layer active and, again, Magic Wand the transparent section outside of the colored part. Make the upper Gaussian blurred layer active and press Delete on the keyboard. Repeat for each filled layer. Adjust the Opacity on all the layers until it looks good.
  8. I've attached a zipped .pdn file. You can download it and look at each layer to see what is involved. BARO MAP 02.zip
  9. The Recolor tool will not work for this. If there are areas of similar color to be removed set the Magic Wand Flood Mode to Global. (Or hold down the Shift key). All similar colors will be selected, then Delete. If many of the colors are different, hold the Ctrl key down and click on each area that you want to remove, then Delete.
  10. Until this becomes a new feature, the following may be the best procedure. As you know, in Settings the Color Picker tool can be set to - Switch to previous tool. So, if you make it a habit to always activate the Paint Bucket tool immediately before using the Color Picker it will revert to the Paint Bucket.
  11. This seems to work well. Remove the white from the original image using the Kill Color Keeper plugin, set to Kill white. Duplicate the resulting blue line layer and turn the bottom layer's line white using the Silhouette Plus plugin. Merge layers.
  12. You can paint in the lightest color on one layer. Make a new layer, paint the next darkest area. Repeat as needed. Also look at Adjustments > Posterize...
  13. To check the Bit Depth, open the Save As dialogue. Anything other than 32-bit or Auto-detect might cause problems.
  14. Found in Effects > Text Formations
  15. Grey shape New layer White line Blur New layer Smaller White line Smaller Blur
  16. Always put your text on its own new layer. If you want to change a word to italics, erase the word and retype it as italics on a new layer. (Same for Bold, etc.) Position it with the Move Selected Pixels tool. To change the color, make a selection around the word and use the Silhouette Plus plugin or the Recolor tool.
  17. There is a newer version called Grid / Checkerboard. Find it here:
  18. It does work with 4.2.16. If you put the tip of the mouse-pointer where the grid lines meet the clipboard image should show. Does that not happen for you?
  19. Just make new Effects and File Types folders in the main folder.
  20. So far as I can tell Paint.net is always equivalent to PhotoShop's pass-through mode. Paint.net has no layer group function. Pass-through mode treats grouped layers as though they are not grouped. ================================== You can open the .psd file, but the functionality of the programs is different. PhotoShop will know what to do with the layer named Gradient Color Mask. In Paint.net that layer is blank. What you need to do is make a bottom layer that is the color that you want the background to be. For the drop shadow of the text you will need to apply a drop shadow to the text with a plugin, or make a drop shadow on a layer beneath the text.
  21. For an embroidered look on the text, try the Stitch plugin.
  22. The size can't be increased. There are several free magnifying glass apps available. Here is one: https://sourceforge.net/projects/magnifier/ Naming the layers also helps.
