Resize image 400%.
Color pick and eliminate grey using the Kill Color Keeper plugin.
Duplicate and merge layer 4 times to get rid of partially transparent edges.
Magic Wand white (Shift key down).Invert selection and press Delete on the keyboard to eliminate dark artifacts.
Apply Effects > Noise > Median

Another possible effect to use is Alpha Blur with Shift In adjusted.

The built-in Flip will flip the entire image.
The Flip plugin flips a layer or the contents of a selection.

You can elongate them with a selection stretch.

You could make a Desktop or taskbar shortcut to the Palette folder.

You could use Outline Object plugin with different colors and thicknesses.
Your starting lines should be on a transparent layer.

Hold the Shift key down while adjusting to preserve ratio.

Fill a New Layer above the background with white.
Make a Rectangular selection as shown.
Press Delete on the keyboard.
Apply Gaussian blur.

Probably the best workaround is to first move one layer to its new position using the Paneling plugin.
Then use Ctrl F on each additional layer.
The plugin will automatically align the additional layers.

If you want to erase a selection, be sure to use the Delete key.
Not the Backspace key.
The Backspace key will fill the selection.

You can rename the Effects folder to OldEffects, make a new Effects folder
and copy over only the plugins that you actually want.

The problem I have with the Recolor tool is that any antialiasing will retain some of the original color.

Some additional thoughts:
Make a Rectangular Selection half the width of the canvas.
Then Cut / Paste into New Layer.
(There will be no overlap)
Flip the layer horizontally.
Toggle off visibility and make the unflipped layer active.
Apply Grid Warp.
Make the flipped layer visible and active.
Press Ctrl F to have Grid Warp repeat what it did to the first layer,then flip the layer back to its original position.
That's the process I used to do this.
(Except Liquify was used rather than Grid Warp.)

If you want to resize the image contained in a selection:
Copy / Paste into New Image
Ctrl C
Ctrl Alt VResize the new image and copy / paste into a new layer in the original file.

Another possibility is to work with an expanded canvas.
On the base layer place an enlarged palette of whatever colors you might wish to choose from.
From any layer you may be working on you can access those colorsusing the Color Picker tool with the Ctrl key held down.
(Color Picker tool shortcut key: K )
The Color Picker tool offers an option to automaticallyreturn to the previous tool after picking a color.

The Colors window cannot be resized.
When my eyes are tired I use these.
