  1. Wow!

I've been using Paint-net for the better part of a decade, and didn't know the feature exists :)

    Thank you.

    Only problem I have now:

The game uses pure black (Hex 0 0 0) to determine which parts are supposed to be transparent.
But once I reduce the colors to my desired value (112 colors) it changes that black to Hex 120 100 0. (see screenshot)
Which means it is no longer registered as transparent areas by the game I want to to import those images into.
    (Custom levels for Worms Armageddon.)

I can't say that I can blame Paint.net for that.
I asked the program to make a compromise, and so it does.
It can't know which colors have a bigger priority for me to stay true to their values than others.
I just don't exactly know how to deal with this,

other than first decreasing the amount of colors to my desired value and then manually replacing all the 120 100 0 black with 0 0 0 black.

    EDIT:

Man, I should have tried one more thing before posting this reply!
using the quantize algorithm "Median Cut" instead of the default "Octree" resulted in black staying 0 0 0.

    🙂

I am very happy and have no more problems.
    Thank you again,

    you are awesome!

  2. Thank you very much!
    This solved the issue.

I can't overstate how grateful I am for your help, patience and expertise.
I will definitely bookmark this, just in case another Windows update will mess things up again in the future.

    You're all awesome!

    ps:

I wish the installer would still just do this for us.
But I assume you have good reasons for the change, and will/would bring it back as soon as you could. <3

Then you removed and replaced not only the filename but also the parameter after the full path. So add "%1"

The quotes are important because the filepath may contain spaces.

Okay, I think I did what you said.
(Sorry if I don't get it)
and I added what you wrote.
Now the entry in the registry is:

    Quote

    "C:\Program Files\paint.net\paintdotnet.exe"%1""

It works on image files that have no spaces in their name, but it doesn't work on image files that have do have spaces in their name. Then I get a white canvas and error message.

eg.: right click -> edit works on "picture.jpg"

But when I would try it on "the picture.jpg" I would get the error

"The Image type is not recognized, and cannot be opened.
    C:\Users\Admin\Desktop\the"

  4. @midora

This kinda worked, but not fully.
I did the edit you said with the following address put in place of regular paint:

    Quote

    "C:\Program Files\paint.net\paintdotnet.exe"

Now when I right click on an image and do "edit",

    it does open Paint.net!
    Progress!

But it doesn't open the image that I did the right click on in Paint.net.
It opens a new untitled project, with just a white canvas.

Your solution did not work for me.
    A re-install didn't solve the problem,

and I do not see the options from your screenshot when I run the installation.
This is all I see when I run the installer:

  5. Hello.

How Paint net worked for me for years (Windows 10) was the following:

If I double click on an image file, it opens in the Windows Photo Viewer.
When I do "right click -> Edit" , it opens in Paint.net.

This is how I love and need it.

But in the last few days since I last used the program, both Paint.net and Win10 have updated.
And now when I do "right click -> Edit", it opens images with Paint 3D. (Ew!)

I would like to restore it to it's previous function.

    PS:
The solution is NOT to do "open with ..." -> "Always use this app".
That would change the double click behavior, but not the "right click -> Edit"

  6. Hello everyone!

I've been browsing the plugins today and found some nice stuff.
But there is something specific that I'm looking for that I can't find.
(I'm not even sure how it's called)

It's basically an automatic enhancement or automatic image optimization of photos.
The plugin/effect would look at a photo and say "The people look a bit pale, I will increase the saturation by X"

or "this photograph of buildings in the night is a bit dark, l will brighten it up and make things more sharp", etc.

Basically a plugin that would adjust contrast, hue, saturation, sharpness, lightness for an improved version of a photo,

without the user having to fiddle with all those settings by themselves for each photo. (I want to do this to a lot of photos.)
And ideally not a plugin that just makes the exact same change to every single picture, but that somewhat analyzes the image and selects the values based on what is there.

Now that I describe it, I become unsure if that really exists,

but I think that Pixel or iPhones have such one-click automatic image optimization features in their image galleries or camera apps.

So I would be  thankful for any tips :)

    PS:

I basically look for a plugin that does these things for the user:
