I already had a new mouse and have installed it. Paint.net works absolutely fine now, so problem solved. Thanks very much everyone - excellent service!

Yes I had thought it might be a mouse problem, so yesterday I replaced the battery but the issue did not go away. I never thought of cleaning it or replacing the mouse though. I will try that and report back. Many thanks.

When drawing a line or curve sometimes the four nubs appear, other times they are not there and finally, sometimes they appear and immediately disappear (I can always bring them back with Edit undo) I have version 4.2.13. This has only started happening today. Furthermore often the top buttons (File, Edit View etc) will not open immediately and take several clicks of the mouse. Thanks for your time.
