Problem solved I manually deleted the remaining files in C:\Program Files\paint.net and rebooted Windows. I reinstalled 4.1.6 successfully and all is now working. Thanks for your suggestions anyway BoltBait. -

The Microsoft tool uninstalled Paint.NET 4.1.5 (which was still working despite the failed upgrade to 4.1.6). Unfortunately installing 4.1.6 still fails with the same error. -

I tried installing Paint.NET 4.1.6 and every time I get "Fatal error during installation" (see screenshot). Previous versions installed no problem. I am running Windows 10 (x64) 1809.
