  1. Oh okay, looks like I misunderstood what it's supposed to do. Thanks for the clarification.
  2. Brush smoothing/stabilization doesn't seem to work with a mouse. I can't see any difference with it enabled or disabled. I expect it to make my lines smoother as if I was using Bezier curves. Is it a tablet exclusive feature? Also, would there be any way to adjust the "strength" of the smoothing?
  3. I am trying to give color to a black shape in an image with transparent background. I tried several things but none give satisfactory results. - Recolor tool leaves a dark outline for some reason regardless of settings (please see image) - The fill tool makes the shape bigger (with antialiasing enabled) or makes the edge rough (with antialiasing disabled) - Creating a new layer on top and setting mode to "Lighten" only works when the background is white and not transparent The only way I found is to use BoltBait's Color Balance plugin, but this doesn't let me choose an exact color. Any ideas how I could use an exact color for this? Also, why does the recolor tool do this? Thanks in advance
  4. In the dark theme, would it be possible to make the dropdowns in the top panel (e.g. with brush selected) either: - have the same style as the dropdown in the Colors window or - make the dropdown arrows white with black background, as they are for other components in the panel They don't look very nice at the moment. Uploading image to show what I mean.
  5. For some tools the pointer cursor is too small and I sometimes have trouble locating it. I tried changing the cursor theme in control panel but it had no effect, so I'm assuming paint.net is using custom cursor images for these tools. E.g. for the shapes tool, the cursor has a width of exactly 1 pixel, and a white outline of 1 pixel. This being on a gray background makes it almost invisible on high resolution monitors. Even moving it around doesn't help. Example image: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10_Y946jVFY9AkjE0gUhUKxLsna0_Eicg/view?usp=sharing (can you find it?) Is there anything we can do to make the cursor larger? If not, this is a feature request.
  6. I'm using two finger scrolling on a touchpad. When scrolling vertically it works as I would expect (scrolls the canvas). However, when scrolling horizontally, it moves either the cursor itself or the selection. I couldn't figure out when it moves the selection and when it moves the cursor but I've had both happen. I expect it to just scroll the canvas, same as holding shift and scrolling vertically.
  7. Pressing 's' 4 times to get to the magic wand tool is tedious. Could we get separate buttons for each of the selection tools? Maybe two-button combinations like s+2/3/4. Sorry if this has been discussed before, couldn't find anything in search or "Popular feature requests".
  8. I suggest using the Kill Color Keeper plugin. Choose the color picker, choose the 5x5 pixels sampling at the top, click somewhere on the background and run the plugin. Then choose the white color and run the plugin again. This should clear most of the background noise. Now pick the eraser, reduce the hardness at the top to 0 and the opacity to 128, and choose a large brush size. Then you can erase the leftovers manually. Add a black layer at the bottom and you're done. I did this with your first image and I'm attaching what I got. Sadly I don't think you can automate this easily.
  9. I agree with OP. It would be amazing to be able to ctrl+click several different layers and then have any selection transformations/effects apply on all of the selected layers at once. Copy/Paste selection makes it feasible, but this feature would make it trivial and much faster.
  10. Can you give us more details about what you want to do? Would you just like an option to draw/generate a grid on the image? If so, you could use a plugin and I believe this isn't a common use case and it shouldn't be a native feature. If I were using grids, I wouldn't want the grid to be a part of the image but rather act as a guideline only. One way to achieve this is to draw a grid with a plugin, then draw on a layer below the grid and finally delete the grid layer. There are many drawbacks with this solution, for e.g. the grid will cover your drawing and you won't be able to see certain pixels when you zoom in unless you make the grid layer invisible. Even better would be if the tools and selections snapped to the grid. Unfortunately I don't think snapping or guidelines are coming anytime soon. They're a lot of work and not popular enough to be a priority. The current priorities seem to be making the code work with a newer framework, letting plugin developers make better plugins and, feature-wise, support for different brushes and pressure sensitivity. I'm sorry your last topic turned out the way it did. I agree that scrolling with the mouse wheel only would be convenient. Scrolling down seems redundant since you can already pan in any direction with the middle mouse button. It's a question of whether this convenience justifies breaking the convention that people are used to - where scrolling down moves the thing up. The developer has decided that it doesn't. (maybe a checkbox in the options some day though?) Have a good day.
  11. It's not a big deal but sometimes I need to be precise with my drawings, e.g. move selection exactly 256 pixels to the bottom or rotate exactly 36 degrees clockwise. Guidelines aren't supported yet so what I do now is look at the current coordinates, use a calculator to calculate the new ones, move with the move tool and nudge with the arrow keys when I'm close. An option in the edit menu would be nice.
  12. I don't like using third party plugins to get a better version of a feature that already exists. I would rather the feature improve natively. Plugins are extra work to install, may stop working in the future will always be less efficient. I hope the curves tool ends up somewhere on Rick's todo list, even if near the bottom, I use it a lot.
  13. Here are a few things I would change to improve the look and feel of the Color window: - Have the Secondary color up front while it's selected. - Some of the characters are not in line with their corresponding slider (see image). I would align them, remove the unnecessary colons and make the sliders wider. - Make the transparency slider go from black to transparent to improve clarity. - Use an icon instead of the text '>>' in the More/Less button. I realize there are probably more important things to worry about but I'm assuming these wouldn't take long to implement, so hopefully they can be sneaked together with other stuff in an upcoming update. Please let me know what you think.
