  1. I hope to make screen recordings using paint.net. The cursor gets in the way of what I like to show. Camtasia offers an option to hide the cursor, and it works--mostly. It lets me hide the drawing tool cursor (I use the brush), but a tiny circle still shows on and off, moving like the cursor would. (See the attached screen shot this forum doesn't allow me to post a screen capture video.) The tiny circle shows up in every screen capture program I've tried using paint.net. Just to check, I installed Krita ( which I don't like) and there was no tiny circle. Has anyone else had this issue? Any ideas about how to remedy it? Thanks in advance, David
  2. Boltbait, Null54, and Ego Eram Reputo, you are correct. This is what I would like. Is it do-able? Would others like this feature as well? df
  3. First, thanks for a great app! I use it every day. Quite happy for it! Something that would save me (and others?) a bit of time has to do with layer names. When I open an image file, Paint.net names it "background" in the layers window. two issues with this. 1) Typically, the png image I open has no background. So each time I plan to work with several layers, I either need to think of something creative to call my actual background layer, or rename the layer with the original png image. Not a super hassle, but a nuisance. Go ahead, call me picky. 2) (and more of an actual problem) I often work on more than one image at once. Each might have several layers. If the original image were identified by its file name, I could more easily tell at a glance which image/layer I was working on as I ctrl+tab my way from one image to another. Cheers, David
  4. Turns out I cannot try that because I am being denied access to the folder I need to copy the effects to.
  5. Thanks! I can try that. But I'd really rather get rid of the Classic version. Is there a reasonable way to do that?
  6. So I did figure out how to uninstall and reinstall paint.net. Now, when I open the program with the shortcut, all of my plugins show up. But when I open by clikcing an image file, the plugins are nowhere to be found. Pain in the butt, but I really like 99% of the program. If anyone can help me fix this, great. Otherwise, I can live with it. df
  7. I'm assuming that you are not considering this a solution, correct? Or did I miss something? In any event, I still can't find my plugins. If anyone knows how to make it so I just have one version of Paint.net on my computer, fantastic! I tried to uninstall paint.net and start from scratch, but it isn't listed in my programs from the control panel.
  8. Here's a snapshot of the effects folder contents: When I check the properties of any of these files, nothing is blocked. But I'm not sure I'm checking where I need to check? Everywhere I can go within the properties options has no "unblocked" option. The closest I can find is various permissions in the securities tab, and those are all allowed.
  9. The only plugins that appear are the ones that come with paint.net
  10. Thanks for the response. I already had the folders you suggested.
  11. I should also say that I installed the free version of paint.net before I bought the paid version. If I start the program from its shortcut, I used to get paint.net with no plugins. When I started it by clicking on an image file, the plugins appeared. Today, no such luck. I tried to figure out how to uninstall the version that didn't work with the plugins, but cannot figure that out.
  12. Today when I went to use one of my paint.net plugins, I found it missing (odd phrasing, but accurate). The plugins are still in the directory where they belong. My suspicion is that this happened in the latest update, but I don't know for sure. How do I get the plugins to reappear?
  13. After trying out paint.net for a time, I opted to purchase it. I run it on Windows 10. If I start the program with its shortcut from my task bar, it get a different version of the program than when I start if by double clicking a file. The version that starts from a shortcut has several plugins I added; the other does not. Other annoyances, but I'll spare you the details. How to I get back to one install--preferably the one with the plugins? Thanks in advance! David
