Sorry guys for not answering sooner. I was out of town this weekend. Thanks Toe_Head but it still showed up with white. Don't worry about it anymore. It was worth a try. The community is great. Pixey - yes I did save them as png files. I double checked. In the grand scheme of things it is a relatively small issue if that. I just like trying to figure out the problem. That is fun to me but enough brain power has been extended on this one....hah!

First off, thanks for all you trying to help out. I would think that the problem would be with the other 'program' but some of the box art shows up with no white background. I will attach one of those for reference as well. It does have the transparent black settings that I thought I duplicated but to no avail. So I have attached the original picture that shows up with the white back ground, the copy I converted to transparent black, and then one picture that it does show up in the program with no white back ground. That picture is the baseball game. I was wondering if I just copied the box and then made a totally new file and did that with the black transparent settings if that would solve the problem. I tried doing that but I don't see how you change the transparency settings before you delete it or use the scissors tool after selecting the background with the magic wand tool.

Well I used the color picker and then set the values all to zero. I then used the paint bucket with the setting set to overwrite instead of normal. As you can see from the screen shot below I got the values set where I want them. It sill showed up as white.......I give up!

Toe Head, That is it exactly. The box covers that show the white background have the 255,255,255,0 values. The ones that don't have the all zeroes. So is it easy to switch the transparent values from the 255s to zeroes?

But isn't the white and gray checkerboard suppose to represent transparent? How can I make transparent more transparent? The picture you sent looks confusing. How are you deleting the transparent background and making it gray? When I do what you are saying it stays the same checkerboard appearance.

Thanks Pixey but I guess my post was a little confusing. I have attached some pictures to better explain. As you see the picture does have a transparent background but it shows up with the white background in the program. I have attached another picture to show what another box art looks like without the white background. It has the same transparent (checkerboard) background when opened in paint.net. What do you think would be causing the difference? Both files are from the same box art download .

Hello, I downloaded a set of some box art for my retro gaming system and noticed that some pictures are displayed with no background and some are white backgrounds on the emulator with a black screen as the backdrop. This only happens with a black backdrop. If the picture is going onto something that has background color (or another picture) the white border doesn't show up and the background remains transparent. The best way for me to describe it is imagine a logo on a black shirt. Some you only see the picture while others have a square picture with the background as white and the picture in the middle. I opened up both types of pictures in paint.net and they are all showing transparent backgrounds. Does anyone have an idea of how to change the ones that show the white background to be truly transparent? I assume it is some adjustment with transparency or layers but I haven't found the right combination to change the picture to display without the white border. Why are some doing this and some not? Both files look the same when opened in paint.net.
