[Copying multiple layers at a time without flattening?]

Except if I, for example, copy part of an image from layers 1, 2, and 3 when I paste it it is flattened instead of some on 1 some on 2 and some on 3.

I want to keep the layers separate.

Is there a way to do this? If not, that kind of blows for making sprites.
