how can I use the sphericity effect (don't know if that is the correct word cause I used google translate) on a selected part of a picture? when I use the sphericity effect it's too big and effects part of the picture I don't want bigger

When I use the magic wand, select the white background and press backspace the background becomes black and not transparent. also when the colors are switched (white --> black / red --> blue) the background is becomes white and not like a checkerboard. the image is a .PNG
