Very many congrats and greetings to everyone involved in this competition. It's impressive what Paint.NET can do when placed in the right hands

Yes, the Smudge and Liquify plugins may also produce blurred areas depending on how we use them, although smudging and liquifying are not exactly the same as blurring

The blur feature in TR's Dodge and Burn works wonders. I highly recommend it, as I've used it many times to soften edges and to smudge and blend shades in my portraits.

If I start with a texture generator, then TGM then a lot of distortions effect, in the end the TGM will be unsignificant.
This brinks another related question: if I work with a canvas 5000x2000, the final result at 500x200 will also not really match with the effect used at this final size...
I think it should be better to make a smaller original image. Like you say, a huge image can result in disappointment after downscaling.

Thanks, Pixey!

I will accept all that have been entered for this week, but I think more than three - in the future - will be disallowed. As you can imagine if everyone posted 4, 5, or 6 it would be massive job to upload them all for the Poll.
Makes sense. Looks like people have been experimenting due to the simplicity of the current contest's requirements

One question concerning the current contest. Does the signature have to be a 100% TGMagnitude thing, or could it be part TGMagnitude alongside other techniques?

Nice spanner! ?

It's true, but it's a good first attempt even if you don't know much about tools

I second LionsDragon recommendation concerning PostImage. I've been using the service almost since I joined the forum two years ago and without a problem. Sometimes it might happen that their servers go down for a few hours for maintenance purposes, but it's just a few hours and I've never lost any picture.

Thanks again for your support, @MJW. Producing this shield took me a good amount of work, so it's always nice to have one's efforts appreciated by a great artist and coder.

Perhaps I might have explained in time that this was a thematic shield revolving around Game of Thrones. I know that not everyone is familiar with the series but those who are, if anyone on the forum is, might get the intended meaning if I say a few things about the matter. The chopped-off letters are the initials of the four surviving Stark children after a long story of plots and assassinations, being Jon, Sansa, Bran, and Arya Stark, and the chopped-off style is intended to represent a damaged yet undestroyed family. I'm very sorry if I'm not making sense, but I'm afraid I'm likely to make little or no sense to those unfamiliar with the story, or even to some who are familiar with it.
Other than the afore-explained , I salute everyone involved in this contest, and special thanks to @MJW for commending my humble attempts at producing a thematic shield regardless of the difficulty in understanding what I tried to convey

I dare request a mini-tutorial on how to produce so realistic wooden textures, or at least a few hints on the matter

I'll certainly try this out sometime soon (as soon as possible) because I very much enjoy painting trees. Thanks for your efforts, sunmaggot!

@Pixey, would it be too late to ask for a postponement given the low turnout?

I normally solve graininess with Surface Blur. As stated in the help for the Blurs menu, “This effect is used to reduce soft details or noise in an image while retaining most edge details and contrast. The result is a cleaner, simplified version of the original.”
I tend to run the effect with default values, or with a threshold of 5 or 10 depending on each image's features.
