Lozzerdude

I have Paint.Net 4.0.3 on a laptop running Windows 8.1 (64 bit) I seem to be unable to mark out a rectangle or circle as I did before, using the mouse. The rectangle shows as dotted lines as I delineate the shape with the mouse but disappears on release of the LH mouse button. Does anyone know what I need to do?
