  1. Edit: And I've just realized that "olden" looks like it applies the effect to the entire image. I can't seem to make it work just for the selected layer or selected object. Is there a plug in that can create a texture like in the parchment section of the above example?
  2. I'm making playing cards for a game, and would like to do something similar to the attached. I have a red background that I would like to make appear as crushed velvet, or like wavy, irregular or rough cloth. The foreground would be a parchment piece, and some very kind users directed me to the photo > olden and the distort > crystallize Effects plug ins. They're great. I can't seem to find something that might help me with creating a border similar to the card attached, however. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks very much in advance.
  3. I'm making a few images for an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper that will be cut up into several playing-card sized pieces of paper. I've finished the illustrations, and would now like to add a background that, unmodified, covers the entire page. For one sheet, I'd like something like an old parchment, to give the playing cards the impression of age or like an old treasure map. For the other, I'd like a light grey cobblestone pattern, something like the floor of an old castle. I don't want to paste in a small tile, and stretch it (would look weird) or tile it across the page (I'd never get the cuts to line up with the tiles properly!) I've not had too much luck with google, and I suspect I don't know the technical/professional terms for this sort of thing to search on. Any recommendations for free sites that have backgrounds or websites to help with this sort of thing? Thanks in advance.
  4. Ah ha! That worked. I was wondering why changing layers didn't do the same thing as ctrl-D, but this does work. Thank you.
  5. I'm designing images with multiple layers. Some layers have illustrations with text, some layers are just text. After selecting the "Text" tool, my text often does not appear. This *seems* to be happening after I've done the "Lasso Select", and copy-pasted the selection. The selection was a graphic, and included transparent/invisible pixels in the selected area. I noted, oddly, that a bit of the text would appear in the "invisible" portion of the lasso'ed image, but then the rest would be invisible. If I tried to go to another layer (e.g., the text only layer), it would still be invisible. I don't want to create another, third layer. I've not yet figured it out: I've been forced to save, quit, and re-enter the program. Then I can select the illustration-with-text layer, and entering text works fine. But the lasso-select followed by copy paste seems to tinker with my ability to add text after...? This is a recently downloaded copy of Paint.NET: v3.5.11 (Final Release build 3.511.4977.23443) A recent post talks about this "disappearing text" too, but the answer doesn't seem to apply to what I'm doing. What am I doing wrong?
