  1. Thank you Lynxster, I'm happy you liked it! A tut, maybe I'll start working with one when I add some better depth and shading going on in the cage...
  2. Marilynx, if you post the specific image I'm sure you can get some advice in how to recreate the same effect No, I don't think you sounded overly critical. I thought it was good to get some advice on how to improve in general when it comes to metalls since I have become interested in experimenting with those kinds of textures. The cook-torrance option worked much better on the cage, thanks MJW, didn't even know what it was for until you mentioned it
  3. When saving, you have one box where you write the name of the file. In the box just below that one, you have the box where you choose which file you want to save your picture as. Simply click the box and select the format you want to save your file as
  4. Great tutorial Red, thank you so much for sharing! All of your gems look fantastic :star: :star:
  5. I made the cage pic this morning in a haste so there are definitelly a lot of room for improvement. I like the lighting in Shape3D ver much, especially in greyscale and for making chrome, however I think the lighting sometimes comprimises the colours of the rendered picture and make them a bit too dull (for my own taste of course) in the shadowed part, turned it off for that reason for this pic since I didn't have time to fiddle with layers and blend modes That's very cool, I never concidered the color of the light reflected off colored metals. Now tha tyou've mentioned it, it makes perfect sense. Thanks for the tips MJW! Always appreaciated!
  6. Haha, I'm sorry! Shame on me The gem is made of the Round/Oval Cut shape from Lynxster4's Faceted Gemstone Pack and I colored each corner with a gradient of a light and a darker green with different luminosity. Below is a quick HowTo to show how I colored the gem. The layers are named with the colors I used on the gradients. Number 4 and 5 are execptions though since I used a diamond gradient on those, the name on that layer describes what colour I used on the corners (every other corner is colored with the first) HowTo Hidden Content:
  7. These shapes are great! Thank you Lynxster for creating and sharing them
  8. I think I used 5 rings... but yes. That is one expensive low-res sandwich Welshblue uses a picture with a white shine applied, but you could use any image or layer, and it will work the same. I filled a layer with a yellow color and ran Shape3D on preset to get a shine and some shadow to the layer. The I used the rest of the tut to make the ring into a chain link, and ran the Curves settings from Barbieq25's tut. Piercing the characters: I placed the link where I wanted it to be, duplicated the layer (and put one of them below the layer with characters). Then I used the erasor on the top layer of the chain links to erase the bottom half. Then I added two blurred, dark dots at the "entrance" of the links. I also came up with an alternative gold wire cage since I wasn't very pleased with my sandwich-looking pendant. I used Shape3D with the lighting unchecked. Hidden Content:
  9. That is a nice result Marilynx! For the 3D look, you could make the emerald slightly translucent (lowering the opacity of the layer) in order to show the rest of the cage on the backside. This I believe should give another sense of depth to your picture. You could also use KrisVDM's Drop Shadow plugin on the cage in front of the emerald to make a shadow casted on the gem. I used both of them to get this: Hidden Content: And for the chain with truth and enlightment, if it is something like this you're after, I'd suggest Welshblue's Chrome Effect Chain Link tutorial. I combined it with a part from Barbieq25's Making a Jewel tutorial for the coloring and curve settings.
  10. Three more, all PDN http://i1351.photobucket.com/albums/p791/linneasimon96/Sword_zpsjfdzxk1v.png http://i1351.photobucket.com/albums/p791/linneasimon96/Life%20Boat_zpsa1kdttxy.png http://i1351.photobucket.com/albums/p791/linneasimon96/Summer_zpscid4zlqe.png The last one may be a bit out of season, but I do miss summer a lot
  11. A picture speaks more than a thousand words: Thank you everyone for your supportive comments! Update coming soon!
  12. Ishi, that is a very clever picture! I love how you have intergrated the flag of the Philippines into an already interesting picture
  13. Let me see if I got this right, you want to cut out the shape of the cog in the white circle, so you end up just with the white circle (with a cog-shaped hole) and a transparent background? If that is what you want, then I can suggest two different ways. 1. Make the cog all black by using the contrast tool, merge the cog down to the same layer as the white circle and applying Boltbait's Switch Gray to Alpha-plugin (Which can be found in this plugin pack). 2. Select the cog with the magic wand selection tool, delete the selection on the circle layer and then running dpy's AA's assistant plugin (Which can be found in this plugin pack) I hope this helps
  14. Some programmers just want to watch the world burn... Was beginning to feel like the Castle of Spamalot in the discussions thread, thank you moderators for fixing it!
  15. The snowglobe is very nice, Lynxster! I like the rainbow spectre in the hearts' reflections, it kind of makes the hearts look like they were made of mother of pearl. And the base is neat too, the darker lines gives it a soft wood texture Glad to see you have started a gallery, looking forward for more pics!
  16. Hello Crsze, and welcome to the forum! The lighting on the upper picture looks like a diamond gradient, try making a black and white diamond gradient on a new layer and set the blend mode to additive and the opacity around 200, it's all about how light you want the white diamond to be so make sure to tinker with the adjustments until it is just right for you. For the color I'd suggest Ed Harvey's Color Filter or Color Tint which can be found here with an example of how Color Tint works. (Just make sure to download the latest version of the plugin pack!) When having installed the plugins use whichever of the plugins mentioned above on the objects you want to recolor. You'll get the best result if the object is grey, and not black or white. Hope this was of any help
  17. I guess there are more than one way to skin a cat For the first time ever I actually took some notes while making that pearl, so if you want, I can PM you a deciphered version of those notes. Or I can make a tut if anyone else is interested.
  18. I gave the tahitian pearl a go too Hidden Content:
  19. Hello ZySj, and to start with: Welcome to the forum! For the stickerbomb skirt I believe this is the simplest way: 1. Paste the stickerbomb picture on a new layer above your picture with the car. (You can make new layers by pressing the buttons Ctrl-Shift-N on your keyboard.) 2. Align the stickerbomb so it covers the skirt of the car by moving. (The moving tool can be accessed by pressing M on your keyboard.) 3. Go to your layer with the car and select the skirt of the car with the magic wand tool . 4. Return to the layer with the stickerbomb, invert the selection by pressing Ctrl-I and press the delete button. 5. Now you should have two layers: One with the car, and one with the stickerbomb picture cropped to fit the skirt. Press Ctrl-Shift-F to flatten the image. Done, your picture is now one layer and the car skirt has a cool stickerbomb. Hope this helps
  20. Really clever shapes, Scrapbook! Now I won't be able to allow myself to buy greetings cards any more
  21. Marilynx, for the highlights you could make one sample pearl without any shading, make the rope of pearls and then use Redochre's Bevel Objects plugin to make each pearl beveled in relation to a point of light set to your own choice An example. The lightest area in the background is where I chose to put the highlight point in Bevel Objects. Hidden Content:
