  1. I don't think I dithered anything - what you're seeing is a roughened vignette, for that 'grunge' effect.

There is also definitely smoke there, but it's probably not as noticeable as the other plumes.

Yours is pretty good, it does look a lot like cross-stitch. Perhaps duplicate the layer twice, add noise, motion blur the first up, the second across, blend layers. The best blend mode seems to be 'Darken'.

It adds a little more 'thread-y' texture to it. :)

  2. You might want to try using the Oblique plugin, which lets you skew objects. http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/2524-oblique-effect-plugin-ymd100714/

I think true isometric angle is 30 degrees, so when you have the plugin, follow these steps:

    Duplicate the layer.

Use the Oblique plugin to skew the fence. (You may need to do this on a larger canvas, since if the image goes off the edge it will wrap around.)

The numbers you're looking for probably have something to do with 30 degrees, mess around and see if you can get it perfect.

Let me know if you need any other help! :)

  3. I've been making a game with my friend Dylan, it's called Iron Rift. I've been making tonnes of art for the game, so I thought I'd share some of it with you!

The latest picture is a 100% PDN image of one of the factions in said game, called The Collective. They're meant to be really strong defensive, but they're not aggressive unless you provoke them. They were forced from their home-worlds by usurpers, and hence they are distrustful of strangers.

You can find more art and information for Iron Rift on our tumblr page, if you like! http://www.tachyonnz.tumblr.com
