  1. I too have run ito a serious issue with these pre-requisite updates needed to install starting from Paint.NET 4.06 and above because that needs  .NET Framework 4.6.1.

Here is a summary of what I found out so far.  .NET Framework 4.6.1 needs the following updates for it to be installed. I downloaded each of them manually from Microsoft's websiste for updates.

These update KB's must be installed in the following order if you are using a manual update method and if those updates are not already installed via the built-in Windows Update on the Control Panel: KB2919442, clearcompressionflag.exe, KB2919355, KB2932046, KB2959977, KB2937592, KB2938439, and KB2934018. I decided to install all 8 of these components one after another in sequence. After those updates, .NET Framework was installed successfully.

The "install instructions" on this Microsoft page mentions the sequence.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42327

KB2919442 is a prerequisite of KB2919355 else the latter fails to install which I experienced.

    Good luck.

  2.   Nothing from Ishi though who gave us the great theme ;) .

Sorry I wasn't able to finish an artwork for several days. :(

I lost connection at home and I think I'm just uninspired to try and make a new artwork cause it would take up time and the one I had in mind is rather ambitious. I think I might sink into some PDN art hiatus.

Need something to cheer me up.

  3. OK then lets begin since there are no more theme suggestions.

We have a good two weeks to do something.

Plenty of time to plan, look for inspiration, work and slack munching some potato chips whilst staring at the screen. :P

    Good luck everyone.

  4. There are tools like the Paint bucket, magic wand and color picker that support multi-layer. I think the painting tools like the brush and the eraser do have reasons to have multi-layer support as well.

The brush type selection is cool. The current way of doing this would be to add a new layer over your image, paint a color on the areas you want the selection to be, click on the empty spaces using magic wand and invert selection then go back to the original background layer of the image. The Alpha Mask plugin can also help with that, however I do agree that a brush-like selection tool would be nice. I could use it myself.

  5. Could not be more true Oceana.

I think part of the reason is we don't have that many active members to participate and replace the inactive ones.Obviously, we are not as big as others forums in terms of actively participating people. I see posts of several people who have been here prior to my joining and have not been active for years. If there was a way to legally and freely advertise PDN somewhere to attract more people, maybe that would help. PDN has the shorter learning curve I think.

I did notice that SOTW now takes two weeks. That's the reason I was able to come up with something rather work demanding last time.

  6. Well thanks again Maximillian.

That idea needs some support and approval from our forumers to take hold. The SOTW is the only competition that is still currently active as or recent months.

If no other suggestions are made regarding the next topic, then I would humbly proceed to ask Drewdale to start the competition on the "Impressionism" theme. I think I know someone here who has advantage over us on that style but that's part of the challenge anyway. ;) As of this posting, I'd wait another day for suggestions. Thank you.

  7. First, congratulations on your impressively intricate winning entry! (That's a lot of detail to fit into 500x200!) Second, it's up to you to choose the theme, so you should choose whatever you want, but I think Impressionism would be a fine theme.

    Thanks MJW.

My original image that composed only of the graffiti wall was 1500x600. My SOTW submissions often start with these dimensions so I can add a lot of detail then resized to a "mini" version of 500x200.

But this time, after finishing and flattening the graffiti wall, I decided to step it up a notch by resizing the 1500x600 canvas to 3200x1280 which is over 4 times the size of the wall. I then added the rest of the scene bit by bit that resulted to several layers to work on for several days. I'm on an ageing, low-powered 2GB, 1.6Ghz netbook but PDN rocks it out and allowed me to render it so far. A wonderful program PDN is. The 3200x1280 image fits perfectly when resized because its in perfect proportion to 500x200. The full-sized version is on my gallery so far.

Besides Impressionism, I have flower power and mind and also a new competition idea altogether. A mod submits an image with a fixed size. It could be a .jpg, .png, .gif or it could even be a .pdn file with fixed number of layers. The competitors basically modify the submitted image into something creative then submit them.

  8. As the latest SOTW winner, I will get to decide what the next theme would be.

But I have more than one idea.

My top pick for now is "Impressionism". You people OK with that?

I have other ideas though which I would reveal if someone requests it.

  9. Thanks Limon, Pixey and Seerose.

The lamp post was inspired by a few real ones I've seen at our local park though some of them do not seem to work anymore. I did not expect that it would get such attention. Anyway, the pole started as a gradient turned cylinder using Shape 3D, then resized and distorted using Grid Warp and Liquify. The pole was also copied and severely distorted using Liquify to create the arms holding the lamps. The pole was also re-used to make the legs of the basketball court at the right. It has an old design, like those from the 19th century where a guy would actually light them at night and douse in the morning. Anyway, it adds something great to the composition.

And Pixey, my little story there was chapter 1. I'd make other chapters if I experience another kind of thing that I think can give a lesson so I wanted to combine a bit of story telling to the PDN experience. I consider myself a poet and philosopher so I think I might wanna have to combine that with my PDN hobby.

  10.

i have small problem. i went to install this update. opened pdn but noticed many of the plugins i added werent there. so i opened pdn from my flash drive v.4.0.09 and they were there..what is wrong .

This was an issue with PDN Beta 4.10.6022.820 which was supposed to be fixed at 4.10.6023.39477.

You might have to go to the Effects folder, right click at your individual plugin DLL's, go to Properties and Unblock them then click OK. Do this to your DLLs and your plugins should appear next time you open PDN. However, if the DLLs were copied from another computer, you need to "Take Ownership" of those DLLs, otherwise unblocking them would not be persistent. This happened to me.

  11. So this is it, the unresized version of my submission to the urban arts theme for  SOTW. It is 100% PDN. Everything was rendered through this favorite program of ours.

This one took several days for me to complete as I was working on it little by little. The image dimension is 3200x1280 which would fit in proportion if resized to 500x200.

The third party fonts used were Ruthless One, Degrassi, Peinture Fraiche and Bombing. The face was a picture of someone that I took years ago that I converted to a threshold at PDN.

The wall with the graffiti was first completed. Once it was merged, it was placed on the center of a canvas six times it's size where the background was added.

This one posed as a real challenge to me. The shadows, the textures, colors, the objects were challenging and thank God it was a miracle I was able to sort out the perspective of this scene. This is my most ambitious PDN work this year as of now. I do not know if anyone has ever attempted this on PDN.

The artistic effort was worth it having completed this in which I was having doubts of finishing.

    Your reactions please. Thank you.

  12. This artwork is 100% PDN. Everything was drawn/rendered by me through PDN.

The original image was 3200x1280 in dimensions and consists of dozens of layers. It took a little less than 2 weeks to create bit by bit.

The third-party fonts used are Ruthless One, Degrassi, Peinture Fraiche and Bombing.

I will post the full-sized version of this on my gallery.

  13. It happens at random. Usually when I have switched in between tools and have been working continuously for 20 minutes to half an hour or more so its not really easy to reproduce.

  14. For someone like me whose into flower power, I l dig this kind of art.

I think, they fit being in a coloring book which is my current pastime.

It also reminds me of those colourful Christmas lanterns which is part of our local tradition.
