Engrave / Emboss

Recommended Posts

Stop, please. Don't tell me that Paint.NET already has this Effect. I know. But it can only do a very soft Engrave / Emboss. Not a masiv one. Let me explain it to you with pictures, please.
First one can be done with the build-in plugin. The others not.

You can get this and other plugins plus the source code from here

Just out of curiousity, why do you always put the downloads in your second post? It's... kind of weird.

...and the Ini File containg the Localization in Francais and Deutsch.

This is the best idea a plugin developer had since Shape3D was published.

I can see myself using this plugin. Sometimes a DEEP emboss can be used to good effects. Used with something like Zoom Blur Delux on say squares you could make an array of blocks.

As for PhotoBucket I can't access it at work as they have blocked that domain. It's fun trying to follow some of the tutorials when I can't see the images they have used :|

Well, there a big problem with this! It is by no means a simple task.

And you know why? Because it depends of the theme you are using.

At my computer, with XP Standard theme, the window looks just fine.

I don't know what do you use. I will have to scale somehow the window depending of this.

I don't know, mabye allow it to be resizable to a certain extent? I thought it would be easy because it was a simple slip up when using Visual Studio's design tools :)

I use WinXP and the Zune theme downloaded from Microsoft, I'm like batman, I like black color :)

It's looks the same as all other builtin XP theme, only the dark colors.

And it has the same problem as Andrew D mentioned.

Same here with WindowBlinds 6. :(

...I like black color :)...

Same here too... :D

I investigated the problem:

The background was still transparent when you applied my effect. It shoudn't have been.

Please note that the original Emboss Effect does dots in the same circumstances.

Hello Scot,

You may find the ideas in this video will help to get the effect you want.

Personally I find this effect difficult - I think it's an optical illusion - the text always appears to come forward for me.

I think the trick maybe to keep the effect subtle.

Good luck!
