PDN 4.0 beta - System Freeze - Bug Report

Greetings All,

System:

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64

MoBo: Intel DG45ID - G45 Express Chipset

Processor: Intel Core-2 Quad Q8400 @ 2.66GHz

Memory: 4GB DDR2 PC2-5300 @667MHz

Video Card: Asus ENGT240 - 1GB GPU

I've been using Paint.Net for a number of years now and I use it for the majority of graphics editing tasks I need to do

for video editing BG's, buttons, and Web stuff. Let me start off by saying THANKS to all the contributers of Paint.Net

for all of your help over the years.

I am running an older PC machine (2010) and upgraded PDN from v3.5.11 to Beta 4.0.5168.12074.

The Bug - SYSTEM FREEZE

Installation appeared to go with no problems and included the installation of Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1.

So with this install came two big changes on the system - .NET FRamework 4.5.1 and PDN Beta 40.5168.12074.

After the install I did the required reboot and the system came up with no problems but I noticed that the install

(probably .NET 4.5.1) created a new USER folder on my desktop. I now have two USER folders on my Win7 desktop.

Paint_dot_Net automatically launched on reboot and I was looking around the new GUI.

Here's where the bug shows up:

-> Click on the Settings toolbar Icon

-> Plugin Errors tab

The errors pane in Mine showed CutrisBlack.Common.dll (used in 3.5.11)

-> Click on CutrisBlack.Common.dll line item on the upper right side window -

When the lower window populated

-> Click on the bottom scroll bar arrow

The system then goes into a HARD FREEZE.

The first time it happened I waited about 20 minutes for the system to unfreeze but it never did.

The only way to restart the system is to do a HARD SYSTEM SHUTDOWN by holding down the power button until the PC powers off.

My system consistently freezes on the same sequence.

I'm not sure if PDN has created a crash report as I have to hard shutdown and reboot. When the system comes back up

and I relaunch Paint.Net there is no indication of a crash or crash report.

I've had severe problems before when Microsoft does an auto install of ,NET Framework. .NET 3.5.1 caused a serious

system problem when Windows Update installed it.

So I'm not sure if what's happening now is due to .NET FRamework 4.5.1 or Paint.Net Beta 40.5168.12074.

I haven't been able to actually run the program yet so I'll remove the Curtis Plugin pack and then try again.

Please let me know if more information is needed for this bug.

Many Thanks,

Follow Up 2

Using Beta 4.0 for about 10 minutes my system crashed to BSOD IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

STOP: 0x0000000A (0x0000000000000008, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000001, 0xFFFFF80002ED7486)

I'm not a computer tech but will attempt to read the Win7 memory dump find out what caused the crash.

There is no PDN crash report so My Bad for not being able to provide more information.

I suspect this is a system crash and not related to Paint.NET - except that is happened to be running when the system went down.

BSOD will be a driver problem. If you haven't run into this before then it might be your video driver, since 4.0 uses hardware acceleration now.

I'd try updating your video card driver. If that doesn't help, turn off Hardware Accelerated Rendering in paint.net 4.0's settings.

Thank you!

I ran BlueScreenView to see if I could learn anything about the crash. The only driver indicated in the crash stack

is ntoskrnl.exe.

That's a pretty big chunk for me to make any sense out of.

In the report of all the drivers and dll's running at the time of the crash no  dll's labeled with paint.net in the product name column were on the list.

I'll look for update drivers for my video card and carry on.

Many thanks for the help and suggestions.
