We're almost there. Barring any last-minute show-stopping bugs, this is it!

Get it via the built-in updater (Help -> Check for Updates), or from the website's main page: http://www.getpaint.net/ . Please do not link to the installer directly, and instead link to the main page.

Changes in this release:

    * New: New default color palette (you may have to use "Reset to default palette" to see it)
    * Finished: Help file is now up-to-date for 3.0.
    * Finished: UI translations for Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portugese, and Spanish. Note: Help file is still English-only.
    * Fixed: Status bar was not displaying help text for tools on first click
    * Fixed: "Rotate Image" was hanging
    * Fixed: Crash in installer when /createMsi was used
    * Fixed: "ScratchSurface already borrowed..." crash fixed in several places
    * Fixed: Spacebar was not activating command link buttons
    * Fixed: Zoom dropdown was not always working when set to "100%" in some specific cases

Hu, automatic update fails for me (is the fact that my copy is in french or something else - proxy or some stuff?).

By the way, I'm downloading it directly, will be as quick.

Sweet! [update worked fine for me]

I like the bigger help menu. The only thing is that the "español" and "français" aren't capitalized.

The only thing is that the "español" and "français" aren't capitalized.

Interestingly enough that's actually how the .NET Framework is telling my code to display the language name ... Heck, I don't even know how the capitalization should work in those languages! It could be completely correct and proper, and probably is.

Yes. I know it isn't capitalized in Spanish and likely isn't in French. It's a German thing, man. We like funky capital letters all over the place.

I'm not a big fan of the new default palette. I like it better than your original default palette (which I thought was too simple), but I'm still using my personal palette.

For the record, here is the original palette*:

Here is the new default palette:

Here is the one I use:

MyPalette.png

*You can click on the pictures to see the actual palette file. Or, you can right-click > Save target as... to save them into your My Documents/Paint.NET User Files/Palettes directory.

That's a valid criticism, and the palette you put there is good as well. With the new default palette I was trying to balance a few things, such as:

1) Ensure black and white are immediately usable in the first two rows which are only seen in "Less" mode.

2) Making sure that all of the "primary" colors are as well.

3) Trying to make sure that transparent colors are advertised a bit more.

For a future release, things I'd like to think about are:

1) Maybe shipping with more than one palette by default. There could be a list of built-in palettes that don't get stored along with the 'user' palettes

2) A good way of sharing palettes with others, via the forum perhaps. Maybe have a way to export the palette in a ZIP file that has the TXT and a PNG that gives a preview, along with a way of easily installing them other than "well open the folder and copy it in!" (This easier installation idea is something I'd like to extend to plugins as well, but that's another conversation.)

Just a thought, Black and White don't need to be seen (or even included) in the palette as there is a button that select Black and White for you.

I like the idea of creating a portable palette file. I think it should actually be a png file with the colors in standard places (like as they are shown). Paint.net could then be able to open the png file and grab the colors and populate the palette from it. This also makes it easy to display and share.

I think it would be a good thing to include a few random palette.txt files with the install. I don't think it would be necessary to make them built-in, just include a few .txt files and I think you'd be fine. These palette files should have certain jobs in mind--like cartoons, landscapes, pastels, crayons, shades of gray, etc.

Oh, and I don't typically paint with transparent colors. Normally, I would paint with solid colors and modify the trasnparency of the entire layer.

I guess the best thing about the palettes is that you can make your own.

I have transparent colors (00000000 and ffffff00) as an integral part of my palette. For instance, the new sigs I did, I used opaque white as the foreground and transparent white as the background so it only filled in half the pattern. Same goes for the shiny bits: I click on opaque white, right-click on transparent white, then draw my gradient. It saves from having to open the More section for quick fills.

And I do think that Black and White should be on the palette, since the Black and White button replaces both the Primary and Secondary colors. Having them on the palette (especially white, since it's so hard to get the dot right in the center of the color wheel) lets you select one at a time.

I like BoltBait's pallet the most. I don't think I would ever try to set one up.

BTW, it's a rare occasion that all of the admins/mods all post replies consecutively. It's like having the nine planets align!

Thats actually quite a good idea idea. How about adding two more options somewhere in the menu (Although I'm sure this something like what was implied by Rick)...

- "Import Palette"

- "Export Palette"

Boltbait how did you increase the capacity of your palette?

Goodness.

Please remember that we are in fact not psychic. We need you to help us help you, we can't just give you the right answer without any context as to what's going on. Right now I'm really not sure what the problem is other than that you're confused about a discrepancy in something.

I have absolutely no idea what "this" is referring to in the first sentence of what you're asking (emphasis added above).
