TechnoRobbo's Edge Fader Extreme v 5.3.5

(Now called TR's EFX in the menu)

I set out to write the fastest, most accurate edge fader out there.

It is not a selection tool - it feathers the alpha inwards from the edges.

Check out the code! Learn how to increase the speed of your plugins.

I'm not getting results like your example. I've placed an object on a layer and tried running the effect on the entire layer and selection(s). Can you please explain some more?

It is working here as described exactly.

In my opinion it is a great idea to have this effect as a plugin, this will be used a lot, especially for irregular selections. Thanks for sharing.

EER, it is under Effect main menu.

EDIT: I believe the right place for it is the Selection submenu.?

Yellowman, I took your advice and moved it to the selection menu. Good Suggestion - I wasn't sure I could put it there but obviously I can.I replaced the download in the original post.

I've got the latest version, which is working as anticipated. The previous version did the same as running the effect twice - perhaps I did (run it twice). Oops :(

I'm not convinced this should be under the Selection submenu - as you don't run it on a selection. You run it on an object, so I would argue that the Effects > Object menu is the place for it.

It's a bit like AA's Assistant on steroids!

Ooops, maybe, lol,I downloaded this yesterday right after yellowman's post. Should I have waited? I tried it out and it works great once I found it in Selections, heh, heh. This is something I have been looking for a long time,Thank you TechnoRobbo

Yes, this Plug-in actually fades the Alpha inwards from the edges up to 255 Pixels . (Version 1.3 fixes an artifact left at top if selection. Available now.)

BoltBaits Feather uses a GaussianBlur on the edges, Here's how he explained it in his tutorial.

Here is the source code to my Object Feather plugin. In this effect, I use Gaussian Blur to soften the edges of objects. This is often used when combining cutouts.

I have only recently installed this one, but Both have merits. I use BoltBaits for a lot of things. This I hope will be of use too. :)

I set out to write the fastest, most accurate edge fader out there, and think I've done it.

Completely new code.

Edge Fader Turbo v 2.1

Version 2.1 7:39 PM Sunday, June 16, 2013 (UTC)

2.1 came very soon after 2.0 so check your version.

2.1 involves trig to replace "if" statements. this makes it faster and more accurate than v 2.0, much faster.

Speed - lots of speed - version 4 new post!!!!

TR's Edge Fader Extreme V 4.0 ( Defeating the ROI for speed!!)

How??? - Using an invisible boolean in the UI as  a semaphore -I am able to process the code once and not once per scanline. This allows me to organically shrink the edge and fade it out.
