New Desktop Computer Build

Hi,

I'm building a new desktop this week and would like to know if anyone has any suggestions as to recommended processors and video cards to fully support best performance of PDN and a graphics tablet. I am also shopping for a tablet, something around $80, and would also welcome suggestions on this topic.

I use PDN for my personal projects, and don't need all the high end stuff, just an economical and expandable general purpose system.

Attached are some preliminary selections I have made.

Any feedback or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Frank

Thank you BoltBait, for the insight,

Yes, I'll defiantly be running windows 7. What sort of graphic tablet would best suit a novice level user, and is it because of the tablet, or other reasons to go with the intel processors?

Nah I'd get the AMD X6 1090 ($200): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103849

Last time I checked a good AMD motherboard was about $50 cheaper than and Intel board. But if Intel boards are cheaper go for the i5-2500K or the i5-2500 if you aren't overclocking. It would help a lot if you gave a price range :(

EDIT: And BoltBait don't you work for Intel?

Thanks Brad,

Yup, I'm also looking at the AMD X6 110T for about $190 when purchased in a combo deal from Newegg

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.569868

If I go that way, I'll have to decide on a compatible video card for around $200.

The other prices from my list of options are also from Newegg.

I still don't know anything about features or compatibility of a graphics tablet. Any thoughts on what I should be looking for there?

I'm very happy with my Bamboo Pen and Touch tablet. http://www.newegg.co...0-057-_-Product

Unfortunately, paint.net no longer supports pressure sensitivity.

Yes. I've just taken delivery of a Bamboo pen and touch but found that Paint.net only sees it as a standard mouse. As you say, none of the special features work. You say that Paint.net no longer supports pressure sensitivity. Does that mean that earlier versions did? If so, why did they remove this.

Pressure sensitivity has been discussed, requested and explained many times on this forum. Here's a couple of posts from Rick on why it was removed.

...Pressure support might not even be included in future versions of Paint.NET. I'm not convinced it's used by enough users, and it causes major problems on the development side. Removing it will allow progress in other areas to be made much, much quicker.

And:

Because it's been causing no end of problems, with various tablet drivers causing all kinds of crashes or problems. Like reporting weird values for pressure that cause the paintbrush to fill the entire canvas with just a small tap.

It might come back later, but it'll be as a plugin or something.

It's also mentioned in the Frequently Asked Questions: http://forums.getpai...ature-requests/

So yes, pressure sensitivity has been available in the past, but it's not at the moment. It might make it back...., sometime!

Time we let this thread die (previous post was almost five months ago) <locked>.
