Paint.NET is getting noticed!

Yup. Definitely something to put on the homepage (the gold award). I like seeing that PDN has 5 stars on everything while GIMP has an average of 3.25. Ha!

...after being re-done or re-touched in PDN.

I was going to post a link to a bigger one, but it would've make the post way too long (and the url messes up on froumer).

I also got an e-mail that Paint.NET will be in the May 2007 issue of PC World. Check the logo.

Your welcome:

I am not a subscribed member of PC World, but I still read it about every month at the bookstore. I was always hoping for a mentioning of the free program called Paint.net.

In short, Paint.net is a free bitmap editor to rival MSPaint, GIMP, and, of course, Photoshop. It is run on the .NET framework from Microsoft, therefore it only runs on Microsoft Windows. It previously ran on Windows 2000, but due to the shrinking audience of win2k users, Paint.net users only run on Windows XP SP2 or higher.

Paint.net has a large number of advantages over Photoshop and GIMP. It much smaller at about 20MB after installation, therefore it runs faster. It has a very user friendly interface (Icons for everything, unlike Photoshop). It contains most of the great features of Photoshop (blurs, distorts, and other effects like clouds and oil painting).

Paint.net has just released 3.0 final today from 3.0 RC1.

The lead developer (now basically the only developer) Rick Brewster is the one to give the credit to. Contact the Paint.net team at pdnemail.gif.

I wrote that right after I sent an email to that "Sharp Paint ®©" guy :P

In case you wanted to know, I sent that to Eric Butterfield (he does some of the software articles).

Just for

The Paint.NET guys modestly call this a replacement for MS Paint. This baby blew MS Paint out of the water about two major versions ago.

I must agree. Time for a catchline change.

Hi,

I just saw that on Download.com :

"Your favorite freeware" : http://blogs.download.com/Daily-Downloa ... php?p=1411

"Roll your own Adobe CS3 for free" : http://blogs.download.com/Daily-Downloa ... php?p=1402

From Download.com article:

"Big-name programs like Paint.NET and The GIMP..."

Sweet!

Notice in both cases, Paint.Net is listed first.

v An excellent open–source strategy game—highly recommended.

I just noticed this. In the freeware site i use, pdn is gaining popularity. It is owning the GIMP, and the only graphics editor it is behind is PhotoFiltre, but they are closed to being tied.

I'm still alive!

That was one of two results for "Paint.NET sucks" on Google (with quotes)

Funny, im getting 115 results for "paint.net sucks". Well anyways, i was reading through them, and some say stuff like it sucks time aways 'cause its cool. Others are saying stuff about how it sucks, but they were using a really old edition of it, and thats been fixed or improved by now. Most of them though are saying there is a lack of plugins. These are just the people who dont bother clicking help/plugins while running pdn.

it's always the same comments...

1. It's not from Microsoft.

2. I keep my Photoshop

3. I keep my crappy Paint

4. It's good for quick edits, I don't want to load my bloated Fireworks or Photoshop to do a resize.
