I posted this oin another area, afterwards, I'm thinking it may need to be here. (?)

I am new to Paint.Net program, I have used Paint a lot.

What I want to do is this:

Import a form, which has graphics on it, or shaded areas that have text.. I would like to change the text and not change the shading or graphics that are under the text.

A friend of mine does this with his photoshop program,, but I unfortunately don't and won't have it.

Any help would be great.

Hoping one of you can help, or steer me in the right direction

Can you post an actual example of the form that needs editing?

It will help towards getting the best advice/suggestions.

You can use the Clone Stamp tool to cover up the original text (this takes some practice and a certain degree of meticulousness). Then, on a new layer, type out the new text you want to insert.

Thank you for your reply.. and the hint on the email address..(I think it is gone)

I am attaching a file.. it has some shaded areas and unshaded areas,,

I want to maintain the shaded areas,, and change all the wording into English, and have it look just like it does here, execpt in English.. I have a friend that does it in Photoshop,, but I can not afford Photoshop.

Any help would be great.......... ( please talk to me like I'm "4" ) I am not a computer wiz.............

On the text-on-white-background areas, using the Paintbrush tool, set to white, may be easiest.

Clone Stamp will work well on all of this, especially the textured areas.

Whether using Paintbrush or Clone Stamp, applying the edits to

a new (transparent) layer above the original will make it easier to

correct any errors before flattening and saving the final edited version.

You'll need to determine what fonts to use for the replacement text independantly.

Here's a starting point:

Open your form image in Paint.NET.

At the bottom-left of the floating Layers window, click on the Add New Layer icon.

Now click on your Background layer in the Layers window. (This makes it the active layer.)

The Clone Stamp icon is in the Tools window, left side fourth up from the bottom.

Click that, then with the Ctrl key down click a text-free area.

(This sets the anchor point from which the Clone Stamp

will begin pulling image pixels to apply at the stamp point.)

Next, click the new layer in the Layers window. (This makes it the active layer.)

Position the mouse cursor over some text that you want to cover.

Go mouse-button down and begin making brushing strokes.

Let the mouse button up between strokes.

Post here with any questions, be as specific

as you are able to so that I can give relevant answers.

Some people find that trying to use the Clone Stamp drives them nuts at first.

If you have no problem with it, ignore the following:

This tutorial shows a way that will work at least as well, without using Clone Stamp.

But don't add to complexity of things.

If Clone Stamp is working for you, don't bother looking at the tutorial method.

I couldn't see where to upload a file on the site that we were emailing back and forth on.

This is the "Save as" file that is on my desktop .

Hope it helps. Well, it wwill not upload,, I get an error that says No file was selected for upload,, and I did,, 2 times the green bar got about 75% across and then the error comes up.. I went to the url you sent and NORTON jumped up and said it was unsafe, so I can't use that.. any other way to send it you?

Okay. I've re-worked the screenshot you sent me

to give you an idea of how things should be.

In the Layers window, remove the checkmarks from all layers.

Then add the checkmarks back one by one working from the bottom up.

Watch what happens on the canvas as you do this.

What about this "flattening" where does that come in..

What is the procedure after I type in the text that I want.. I think that is the key, there is something that I am not doing before I " save as " (?)

Hello and Good morning.

Well, I have gone over your redo and I have tried to follow the instructions to a tee.

I still end up with the december over the june or the hash marks under the december,, I tried with 3 layers.. the background and 2 others with one being a colne (which only shows hash marks, actually all but the background show as hash marks)

This is what I do:

1. open paint and "open" the file.

2. click on add new layer (it is named background by default)

3. while the background layer is highlighted, I click on clone stamp then hold down CTRL key I click on the background of the sheet.

4. click on add new layer (for text)

5. click on text tool and position and set font and size and type the text.

Now what,, no matter what I do, I still see the june date,, when I click off the check mark, the only thing that shows is the hash marks on all but the 1st background layer.

I look at your example, at one point,, the june is gone and it is just empty? (at the CLONE STAMPING layer) Please detail how you did that,, that must be where I am missing something.

Above in one of your replies you state: "Whether using Paintbrush or Clone Stamp, applying the edits to

Never have found the word flattening?

Please advise.

2. click on add new layer (it is named background by default)

If the "new layer" comes up named Background by default,

then you have clicked on the Duplicate Layer icon.

The Add New Layer icon is bottom-left in the Layers window.

The new layer will be named Layer 2 in this example.

3. while the background layer is highlighted, I click on clone stamp then hold down CTRL key I click on the background of the sheet.

The layer that needs to be highlighted at this point is the bottom layer.

The layer with the original image that you opened with Paint.NET.

Be sure to Ctrl/click in an open expanse of texture.

Next, click on the new layer in the Layers window.

Now, With Clone Stamp still active, brush over the pre-existing text that you want covered.

Flattening isn't part of this problem.

It's part of the process of saving as a standard one layer filetype. (PNG, JPEG, etc.)

The checkmark determines whether a particular layer is visible.

No checkmark, not visible.

I follow your advice to a tee.

When I open the file in Paint. it automatically is the background in layers.

When I click on add layer.. I get layer 2.

I just followed your instructions again,, and when i used the cursor to erase the the text.. I still have the that original blue box that I had the very 1st time. And when I print it off of Paint.. the blue square is right there.

I am wondering if I am not getting the "clone" ? Cause I have been tryig for hours and hours and getting the same results. (?)

Do you mean the very large blue box

that runs all around the document border?

That is part of the document image on the first layer.

Now I'm confused as to what you are working towards.

I suspect that you are right, the problem is with the cloning step.

Here's another example .pdn file with the blue border and lower date cloned over.

No,, I am not talking about the blue border around the doc. I am talking about a the little blue box that shows up when I erase the date.. the 1st time it was at the end of the date, this time the little blue box is at the front of the date. (almost like the grey scale grid that you see as a layer.. only this is blue and it is the size of the letter "0"

The anchor point for the clone stamp trails

along behind it as you move the mouse.

If the anchor point goes into a blue area,

like the blue border, it will apply it.

That may be what's happening.

I just did the routine again,, did not go near the blue boarder.

Did not get the blue box.. only the grey scale grid..

After I erase the date, I hve the grey scale.. I open another layer for text.. I type in what I want and I still have the grid no matter what I do.

I am at a loss.

Yes.

There shouldn't be any need for any erasing at all with this.

The clone stamping should be able to cover what is not wanted.

Then the text can go on a layer above the clone stamping.

Maybe you could make a very small canvas size duplication of your process.

If it is small enough, the forum may let you post the .pdn in a zipped container as an attachment.

Then I'd have a chance to actually see what you are getting with this.

Do you think that I may have a different version? Or is this the only one? Is there a update?

I don't know what else to do.. I see your examples and they make sense,,,,,,,, my page looks like I duplicate your work,, but it just ain't there.. If I don't erase,, I have the old date under the new date...........?

I really don't know how to take what I did and make it a zip and all of that.........and I'm not interested in trying to learn that now..

No Clone Stamp.

Open the document image in Paint.NET.

Erase the date.

Duplicate the layer.

Layers > Duplicate Layer

(In the top menu)

Click on the bottom layer in the Layers window to highlight it.

Click on the top-right icon in the Tools window. (Move Selected Pixels tool)

=============================

On the canvas, click and drag to the right.

(You'll be moving the bottom layer beneath the visible top layer)

You should be able to fill in the erased hole this way.
