Draw in Three Dimensions

In the new version if all of the settings were blank then it would run a black and white copy of the layer as mask. It doesn't do that anymore, instead not running any mask.

You're plugin does provide a suitable work-around however :)

aguba,

You might want to clarify that statement.

It sounds like you are telling people that they can do your

tutorial successfully using Mike's plugin as an alternative to

the Alpha Mask Import plugin.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean?

The tutorial includes loading a mask using Browse, for example.

I didn't see a browse function on the UI of Isolate White / Black.

If it will do everything the tutorial requires that's great.

Can it use the values from one layer as a mask for another layer?

Aguba, I've written a new plugin called Trail that should make step 3 of this tutorial much faster.

Hello, this is my result (attached). It's a bit lighter than yours. I didn't figure out how to apply the gradient to the white lines,

so I instead used gaussian blur and applied a glow. At the end, instead of turning light to 0 I turned it up a bit. I didn't use Vignette.

Edit: This is my first try at this so it's not very original boltbait.hmm.png but I need to learn for now. I will be more original in my creations.

Here's my go :) Not the best, but I tried; maybe someday I'll try it again with more luck.

Good tutorial though.

Wow! What an amazing tutorial - for which many thanks. I will not admit to how long I took to do this ..... but it was many, many hours. I learned a lot but, like Ben Arie before me, I could not select and put a gradient to the white lines either. Bother!

Pixey,

To put a gradient to the white lines,

you want to use a transparent radial gradient.

Wow! Thanks for that tip and I managed to do it this time.

Been gone for awhile. Brilliant results guys, nice work.

Aguba, I've written a new plugin called Trail that should make step 3 of this tutorial much faster.

Excellent plugin pyro, definitely speeds things up. I may update the tutorial to include its use.

Hey

I'm very new in Paint.net but I love this tutorial. You guys have all so great results... I've tried it so often ( really often ! with letters, circles... ) But I can't get an good looking result :/ The funny thing is, on every try, I made different mistakes. Forgot layers, used false plugins... so I'm still trying to draw in 3 Dimensions and if I get anytime an result nearly goodlooking like yours, I will post it ;)

Hello ,

I have a problem at step 5 , the instruction says to brush the clone stamp over the shape , but when i click with my mouse nth happens .

I just skipped this step cause i dun understand , i tried applying alpha mask , i click alpha mouse ,tick 'invert mask ' 'Mix alpha ' 'Paste To clipboard' , and what am I am suppose to browse what? The flattened image that i save earlier?( the step 4 ) rather confusing for me , im a newb in Photo softwares.

Btw theres a typo here 'the Mix Alpha check-box must me ticked' the 'me' should be 'be'.

Hope to receive help soon , dying to try making my own 3d Signatures

Thanks in advance .

It turned out good enough, but I wish it were better. I was actually trying to get it to look closer to your signature, aguba. Though, I used a different shading technique and went overboard on it. This was the second attempt, which is way better than my first was. Therefor, my next attempt shall be up to my standards. [:

Excellent tutorial. Thanks!

Here's my third try:

I think it's better, but I couldn't quite get the shine right.

I worked with a lot of 3D before and found some of the differences of style with controls. For example, if you have two levels of circles then set in black color and other is white color, After that just set it in lighter than the second object which is darker. Now It looks so good and awesome pictures or image.

I did it!

The image used as the "Shape" is my creation as well. Great tutorial!

ASTAR.jpg?t=1281530901

PS.

The step that uses the feather plugin. There's a much easier way of doing it:

1. Use the magic wand tool to select the black area.

2. Use the "Outline Selection" plugin and fiddle about with the width.

3. Use alpha mask to remove the remaining black.

I say this is easier, but that's just my personal preference.
