The first thing I'd try is running Windows System File Checker (SFC): https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system

It asks you to run SFC from an elevated command prompt, but doesn't explain how. These steps will help

  • Click the Start button.
  • In the search box, type cmd.
  • Right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as Administrator.
  • Click Yes to run the Windows Command Prompt as Administrator.
