About Canvas Size

Recommended Posts

If the canvas is expanded, the added canvas area on the BACKGROUND layer is painted with the secondary colour.

However, I've noticed two exceptions:

1. If the original background layer is deleted, the expanded canvas area of the bottom layer is filled with transparency. This is true even if the background layer is duplicated, the original deleted and the copy layer is still named as "background".

2. If a clipboard image is pasted into a new image (Ctrl+Alt+V), the bottom layer in the new image is named "Layer 1" and Paint.NET treats the new image as if it has not a background layer. So, in this case too, he expanded canvas area is filled with transparency with one having to delete any layer.

To save myself from worries of this nature, I always duplicate the bottom layer if I want to expand the canvas and then I just delete it.
