Simplest way to get ripped paper effect?

Hello

I'm a Paint.Net newbie, and was wondering what is the simplest way to combine two articles with a torn paper effect as shown in the attachment.

Thank you.

it kind of looks like he wants to make a scrapbook effect? Maybe?

He wants to "combine" two such articles. He hasn't ask for realizing the torn-paper-effect itself. Now I ask (myself) what he really want. Stitching together? Overlay with additional shadows?

Good point! I totally overlooked that part (need more coffee).

Thanks for the help.

The video is for an older version, and the menus are a bit different.

So I went throught the "Corrugated Cardboard" tutorial, but am stuck at Step 14: Even though I installed the two plug-ins (by copying the DLLs in "c:\Program Files\Paint.NET\Effects\" and running the installer, respectively), there's no plug-in named "Drop Shadow" anywhere in the Effects menu:

Quote

14) Use the 'Drop Shadow' (ds.png) plugin with Widening Radius at 0, Blur Radius at 2, Shadow Color at Black... other parameters stay at default values

Has it been renamed recently?

Thank you.

Nope. It's still in the same place: Effects -> Object -> Drop Shadow...  - now actual in version 3.8.0.0. by Kris Vandermotten (Vandermotten.PaintDotNetEffects.DropShadow.dll)

BTW: If you have placed the new DLL while running Paint.NET you have to restart it to make it available in the menu.

I don't have it.

Do I need to perform extra steps after 0) stopping Paint.net, 1) unzipping the DLLs from the AA's Assistant zip files into Paint.NET's Effects sub-directory, 2) running the Drop Shadow installer, and 3) restarting P.net?

Here are the files I have:

No. Maybe you placed it in a wrong folder or ...

unzipping the DLLs from the AA's Assistant zip

...you have the wrong ZIP. Thats not for the Shadow Plugin.

Go here.

Thanks. I installed both plug-ins since they are mentioned in the tutorial.

Maybe I didn't run the installer correctly before: Now, I can see a bunch of  Vandermotten.*.dll in "c:\Program Files\Paint.NET\Effects.

For newbies like me wanting to do the same thing, you only need the Drop Shadow plug-in, and use the Lasso tool: For each picture you want to edit…

  1. Use the Lasso Select tool to select a wavy ripped edge on the picture.
  2. Delete the selection with DEL
  3. Perform the above steps for all the pictures
  4. Create a new picture, and copy/paste the pictures you just edited.

Thank you all.
