Export-function in Paint.net?

Recommended Posts

Everytime i work with paint.net with more than 1 layer and i want to save my pic (not as pdn), i have to merge all layers together and after saving i have to unmerge them to continue my work.

So i thought: wouldn't it be usefull to make an export-function which merges the layers, saves the pic and unmerges the layer..?

So the 'normal save' (ctrl + s) would save the image as pdn and the export would save it as png/jpeg/tga or what ever.

I don't know if you could make a plugin for that or if this must be made in the full paint.net code, i just would be happy if you could make this :)

The problem is, I ofthen design something and I just want to change a little detail for to see how it looks with other pics together. For to save this pic with the little new detail I have to:

- choose the image-format (e.g. png)

- give it the right name

- confirm that I want to overwrite the old file

- (for png which i ofthen use) give the image the right bit-depth

- confirm that I want to merge the layers

When you did that about hudred of times it really annoys you....the image saving takes more time than the work on the image

I have to agree to this idea - this will hopefully explain why I would find it useful.

and in this example i am working with the source template image

and creating multiple variations of the same for a community site for instance

that requires each banner to have the community's unique name...

1) I open "banner-source.pdn"

2) make a small change like the banner title text for each community name

3) "save as" and select jpg,

4) confirm the quality

5) and then "flatten" and give it a different file name so I can tell them apart.

now comes the annoyance....

6) I then have to close the active file as it is now a jpg.

7) go to "File/Open recent" and re-select the "banner-source.pdn" to open it.

8) I can now start the creation of the next one...

I would like the export function so that I simply retain the original source file

open in Paint.net that I was working with - the banner-source.pdn

no more steps like 6 to 8.

I hope this makes sense to all. thanks for a great product though :)
