  1. Yeah, true enough. I just did a test, using the best compression for all three formats.. 7-Zip = 3.38kb Rar = 3.41kb Zip = 3.85kb (Which is weird, cause standard compression gave me a 3.82kb file.. ??) Those little numbers get big fast as file size increases. (Besides the real advantage is the extra file formats they are able to decompress, like 20+ of them..) Anyways, we're getting off topic..
  2. 1. I see, well that answers that... 2. I understand the performance bit, but as I said, I've written several programs, about 20-30 myself, and all saw some benefit, primarily in startup time, which became instantaneouse, compared to a 2-3 second delay while it loaded up.. Don't misunderstand me here, I'm not trying to tell you how to do anything, whether you try this or not is up to you, and it may or may not work in your applications case, as you already stated. I was simply stating facts from my own personal programming experience, it did speed up my applications startup time, and made them generally more responsive(menu's etc,.).. Anyways, thanks for your time, and for giving us this awesome free graphics editing software.
  3. Thanks for nice comments everyone.. I updated the first post to include a .zip package for those who don't wish to use a third party tool for extraction. Though I recommend you reconsider, there is a lot of good content out there that uses formats the default extractor just can't handle. They're free for personal use, take up little space, it works just like your current extractor, from the context menu so you won't even notice the difference, and you'll be able to extract .rar files, .7zip, and many more.. But wait folks, that's not all, act now, and I'll throw in..... Oh, sorry, I was on a roll..
  4. Thanks, glad you like it.. Anyways, yeah, I've found with just a little tweaking, you can make some very nice toon shaded\vexel\portrait looking art with it.. Adding a bit of blur really gives it that smooth look, like vexel.. Adding some noise in you can get that painted look, etc,..
  5. I'm not the Paint.NET developer. Ah, sorry about that, my mistake..

  8. Right, but what I was curious about, is if you have recompiled the .exe and .dll files using v3.5 SP1 update, this will speed up applications by 40-50 percent..(Thats according to the release notes for the 3.5 SP1 update..) And in my experience, it really has sped up all my applications by a LOT.. We're talking seconds, not minuscule milliseconds or anything.. It's really worthwhile to try this if you haven't... Edit: Sorry, my brain wasn't working, you have to update both the framework, and your IDE(C#, VB.Net, etc,..) to the 3.5 SP1 versions for this speed boost to happen.. So update both, and recompile, and there ya go.. Well, thats understandable..

  11. Alright, I'm a bit of .Net developer, not the greatest, but I get by.. Anyways, the .Net v3.5 SP1 update provided a huge speed boost in my .Net applications startup time, and I was curious if anyone knows if Paint.Net has been recompiled since that update was released. If not, my next question is, is the source code for the latest version available, I looked, but didn't see it(granted I didn't scour, I just looked.. ), I would like to recompile it, to see if it speeds up the startup time a little bit.. Btw, sorry is this is wrong forum, I wasn't sure where this would fit in best, so I went with general.. ---- Edit: I just wanted to add this here too, I forgot, you need to update both the framework, and your development IDE(C#, VB.Net, etc,.) to v3.5 SP1 to get the speed increase.. But it really does shave seconds off of execution time..

  14. Here is a larger picture, that has been edited a bit, to demonstrate what you can do with the plugin... http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e323/ ... ample1.jpg I applied the toon shader, added noise, used a slight "average blur", then adjusted the brightness\contrast, and colors just a bit.. It gives the pic a painted portrait vibe..
  15. I've been using Paint.Net for quite some time, and I've been using some of the great plugins developed here, so I figured I would share mine with you. It's just a simple toon shader, it's based on code used in basic DirectX toon shaders.. So it's a different effect than the "Toon" shader I found on here awhile back.. Original Pic ============ Toon Shader ============ -------------- Note: I have added a .zip file for those who don't wish to use Winrar\7-zip.. So don't mind the different downloads, they are both the same plugin just using different file types..
