  1. Oops! We should read the rules more carefully - this topic has been covered before. I used the search function on "unspecified error while saving" and found a couple of other threads. The best was probably http://paintdotnet.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=22216&hilit=unspecified+error+while+saving (sorry, haven't figured how to do this shorthand). While there's no fix, there's a couple of workarounds: 1. david.atwell wrote: I got the same error, but I got around it by first saving it as a lossless type (such as .PNG or .PDN), then reopening that image and saving as a .JPG. 2. Rick Brewster said: Best bet is to open it in a program that will take it, then copy+paste it over to Paint.NET. I tried workaround 1 on my most troublesome file and it worked fine. Not ideal, but hopefully the problem will go away with a later release of Paint.NET, the GDI+ codec, or whatever. Pete

  3. Hi again, Here's a little more info from my post yesterday. Firstly, I should have said I am using v3.36.3158.38068 (same as original poster Rick), and my OS is XP Pro up-to-date (same as Rick). Thanks AmadeusX - I tried saving to a different location but results were the same. To try to show the weird nature of the problem, here are results for four original files (2 have the error and 2 don't). You can see that even though IMGP1614 is bigger than IMGP1785, IMGP1614 is OK and IMGP1785 has the error. I then used Xnview to save the files (the ones with the '-2' suffix) with JPEG quality set to 100% but no other changes. Now IMGP1614-2 works even though it is much bigger than IMGP1785. And even though IMGP1785 increased in size in going to IMGP1785-2, it went from having the error to being OK. All files are 3008 x 2000 pixels. File Size File Name Works? 2,198,226 IMGP1614.JPG OK 2,959,569 IMGP1614-2.jpg OK 1,789,003 IMGP1722.JPG OK 2,448,676 IMGP1722-2.jpg OK 3,687,074 IMGP1762.JPG Error 3,741,297 IMGP1762-2.jpg Error 2,161,382 IMGP1785.JPG Error 2,894,886 IMGP1785-2.jpg OK The problem seems to be related to some combination of pixel size and file size. Rick's fail with < 1MB files, but over 8 megapixels. Mine fail with > 2MB files, but just 6 megapixels. Unearthly is playing with 40 megapixel files (!), not sure of file size. I'm confused. Are we the only 3 people with this problem? Pete

  5. Hi, In case it helps, I have the same problem ("The first error is a Preview, file size: (error). When you try to save the file a window opens with the message "There was an unspecified error while saving the file."), but with JPEG files. However, all files I have tried are the same PIXEL size (3008 x 2000 pixels from the same digital camera), but the FILE SIZE makes a difference as to whether I get the error or not. Files above about 2MB have the error, below that they don't. But it's not that clear-cut, because I have a 2111KB file which fails and a 2147KB file which doesn't fail. Thinking it might be memory-related (on my old PC), I unloaded a few applications to free up memory and tried again, but the result was the same. I'm new to PDN (and new to posting on forums!). I'm happy to try other tests if it might help.
