  1. This happens every once in a while (rather infrequently, actually). I'm clearly getting an out of memory error, but in this case and cases like it I have around 45-60% of my total system memory available (12gb, 2x4 in one channel, 2x2 in another). Every time it occurs, I run a memtest and find no issues. For what it's worth, I have disabled the Windows Pagefile (running on limited space with two 64gb SSDs in a raid0 array). This issue occurred on Windows 7 and now Windows 8, both were clean installs (as in, Windows 8 did not upgrade Windows 7) For this particular crash, Paint.NET was using a reported 914.6 MB of memory, with 46% of my total memory free. Here's a link to the crashlog: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2987/pdncrash.log
  2. As long as the computer is running full Windows 8 (as in, not Windows RT) you won't experience any issues running paint.net.
  3. Currently, Paint.NET handles the forward and back buttons on a mouse as just that: forward and back buttons. This means they currently have some level of functionality in Paint.NET (such as filling the canvas with the secondary color when using the Paint Bucket), but they mostly go unused. What I would like is for them to be mapped to something a bit more useful, to potentially benefit those who have mice with these buttons on them. For instance, Notepad++ and other applications let you switch between open tabs in the application. If this were the model, the buttons on the mouse would let you cycle through the open images in Paint.NET. Web browsers use these buttons to move forwards and backwards in history for a tab. Using this model, the two buttons would be mapped to undo and redo. Either of these would be really great.
  4. Great writeup! Definitely a lot of issues to consider when thinking about implementing some kind of advertising plugin in the installer.
  5. I've always kind of wondered why Paint.NET never employed something like OpenCandy in the installer instead of advertisements on the homepage. It seems like Rick could make some steady income off of it. Plus, it would monetize the users who are already Paint.NET users through updates.
  6. Try pasting the transparent letter onto a new layer. You can create a new layer by clicking on the :AddNewLayer: button.
  7. It sounds like you want to be able to change the image's dimensions but not actually distort the image in any way, is that correct? Perhaps you are wanting to Crop the image or adjust the image's Canvas Size?
  8. It seems like the window you drag over (after moving the selection being drawn) takes focus. This is letting me change tools, undo, move layers, etc before finalizing the drawing of the selection. This also causes the Rectangle Select Tool's cursor to not revert to the 'ready to create a selection' state.
  9. Currently, if your canvas is larger than the viewing area and the Tools / Colors / History / Layers boxes are above it (like this: bit.ly/HRlzsg), it is possible to use the Rectangle Select tool to create a selection that extends beneath those windows (like this: bit.ly/I1Dz5U) However, if I change the selections position by holding down both Left Click and Right Click simulatenously, I can't actually extend the selection beneath the floating windows. If I try to, then I can't release the selection without changing tools. Sorry for the poor articulation of the problem. Hopefully it made some sense as this problem can cause some bumps in my work flow.
  10. If there is just a white background, I recommend checking out this tutorial: For anything more complicated, check this tutorial out: http://www.isimonbrown.co.uk/cutting-out-images/ Hope this helps! If you need any more help in the future, I recommend trying out the Search functionality as many members have posted excellent advice on many common operations performed in Paint.NET.
  11. Hello. I am using Paint.NET v3.5.10. This was an odd crash, because before it crashed Paint.NET seemed to have 'lost' half of its effects and adjustments. I say half because while a good many of my installed plugins were still available, an equal number simply disappeared from the context menus. I tried to click on Help after this happened and Paint.NET finally locked up and closed. Crash log:
  12. How often would one want to make a selection of (n x 5) vs (n x 5) + 1? I can't claim to have done any research on the matter, but I know from personal experience that I am targeting a multiple of five way more often than I am targeting anything in between. This certainly isn't a suggestion made off of a whimsy, but one made after quite some time with the software. I think I would prefer even sets over odd sets if you don't like skipping a digit, going from 2,4,6,8,10,... instead of 1,3,5,7,9,... Now obviously you can't tailor the software to my personal preference, but I just don't think I am the only one finding myself targeting multiples of five over odd digits. This also seems like a problem that most people wouldn't know they had, one way or another.
  13. This is just a suggestion to increase productivity and usability with the selection tool. When a large image is zoomed out and you create a selection, obviously not every mouse increment can correspond to increasing or decreasing the width or height by a single pixel. But this can cause some problems. For example, if I am viewing an image at just 50%, the selection will increment or decrement by 2px starting at 1px, leading each increment to be an odd number. For those working in design, this can be somewhat frustrating especially when trying to create selections 300x200, or some other even number. To remedy this, I suggest snapping these selections to increments of five. So instead of the with going 235,237,239,241 it would go 235,237,240,241. That way you hit every single multiple of five and ten. I know my explanation of this problem is pretty poor, but it really is hard to describe this little problem. Thanks, Mike
  14. This bug has occurred for me every time I cut an image from a layer, create a new layer, change its name, and then paste the image. It says that I don't have an image on the clipboard. I haven't tried to confirm this under other conditions. v3.5.8
  15. Yeah, all of these were a study into shape and color. All of them have a carefully crafted balance and color harmony that I attempted to achieve. I am happy they are well received! Two more since you guys like them:
  16. AP Art is a highschool course that - should you score high enough - allows for college credit at most major universities in the United States. Want more? Here is another one:
  17. Here is another AP Art piece that is one hundred percent Paint.NET. This is actually part of my concentration, so I have a ton of similar pieces. Hope you guys like it!
  18. None of these should break in future releases unless there were major revisions to the plugin system. These are pretty fault=tolerant plugins made in CodeLab.
  19. No. I no longer support these plugins. Sorry!
  20. I was just drawing a transparent gradient. Perhaps I drew it too quickly? I do not know. Let me know if this could be in anyway related to memory issues.
  21. Well, after trying it out this plugin is much better then the one both of us released two years back.
  22. Yes! One of my most requested plugins. Thanks a ton, Pyro!
  23. Whoa! I want to make an avatar like yours! Could you tell me how?

98% certain that was a forum glitch from when they moved to IP.Board.
