  1. Ooh, status updates. How fancy...

  2. Your link here is dead. Is there a newer place you can link to? Frustrating not knowing how to proceed for a noobie.

  3. PDN is number 12 on Lifehacker's list of "61 Free Apps We're Most Thankful For"
  4. Here's a random-looking album cover that I'm going to put on some mp3s I may spit out in the future: The idea behind it is to create something that has no particular point of reference, so it can be interpreted in different ways. Kinda like the album cover for Radiohead's In Rainbows ...probably going to change it sometime in the future, though
  5. Well, .stp files are based in 3D, so that's a pretty much out of the window for the next 10 years .mip, however, is basically several bitmaps smashed together, so it seems to be a possibility... any takers? EDIT: Try to Googling for some converters to, for example create an .mip out of a couple of normal images.
  6. I felt like making a 5 minute signature, so I did. ...it should appear sometime on my random image loader signature thingy I plan on making a thinner one

  8. While this thread, frankly is very off-topic, and Paint.NET doesn't support C4D, I'll be pretty and awesome by letting you know that deviantART is great for stuff like that 8) ...68% chance this thread is about to be locked by either Ash or d.a

  10. Yeah, I middle-click links like soul41 (in my mind, all links either open in the same tab or a new window). However, I think Firefox has a setting somewhere to automatically open all new window links in a new tab (in which case you'd have to Shift+Click to open in a new window).
  11. Yes EDIT: Seeing as you changed your post... Well, in a way, yes (my signature is 100% PDN), as long as you know how to work it in your favor or if you follow the right tutorials and are provided really good stock images.
  12. Here's one of the best things to know about the line/curve tool: You can right click on the nodes to make it a bezier curve (i.e., really smooth). Knowing about that is a lifesaver
  13. ^Wow, rather blunt there. You must be learning from Rick Unfortunately, Paint.NET doesn't support SVG files because they're vector images (a bunch of mathematically-placed curves, shapes, and text), and not what is called a "rasterized" image (just a bunch of colored dots). Now, one may think "why don't they just add vectors?", but sadly, it's not that simple. See, Paint.NET was originally programmed to be was to serve as a raster image editor, which means that our fellow programmers would have to basically create a whole new program in order to add this one feature (and believe me, that would take years). So yeah, click on that link to Inkscape in the post above; it was strictly designed to be a vector editor (so in turn, you'll never see raster image editing on there), also a free download to the public.
  14. Dido what Mike said ...unless what you want is to lower the transparency of the image by double-clicking (or clicking "Properties") on the image you want faded in the Layer window, then moving the transparency adjustment bar thing (hey, play with the Layer Blend modes while you're at it )
  15. Too bad the corrupted file was .pdn. Elsewise, the file would've been easily recoverable by opening it in MS Paint (seriously, it works; just about the only thing the program is good for, too )
  16. I'm running SP2. Why? No actual reason. I installed an SP3 beta, but later uninstalled it, waiting for Windows to update to the official release automatically. Apparently, it never did. And thus far, my installation of XP hasn't been going through problems, and performance is just fine. And normally when I'm on the computer, I'm downloading something, and I don't want to stress out dealing with 10 Kb/sec download for something that isn't going to do much for me in the near future, especially knowing that updating will force me to re-patch uxtheme.dll I know that in reality it isn't much of a job to download when I get off the computer and re-patch, but in the last year or so, my work's been piling up. I've barely been able to find the time to edit any pictures in Paint.NET (or Photoshop); just do the minimum computer work (for example, upload a 10MB video to YouTube).
  17. Paint.NET is the 32nd free program that Lifehacker is most thankful for: http://lifehacker.com/5098944/free-soft ... ankful-for Don't look at #15.
  18. Last night, I was watching the No. 1 Countdown on Fuse [Alternative Rock countdown], and I thought "Hmm... I should design an album cover sometime." Then, about an hour ago, I was in the offtopic thread, and thought "an Album Design Competition would be pretty cool." And about 45 seconds ago, I started typing this post.
  19. I was at Borders the other day, looking at some books and magazines, and I found a special edition of Shutterbug magazine, full of how-tos. I skimmed through the entire magazine and didn't learn a thing. However, I was interested by an article on recomended Photoshop alternatives. Of course, Paint Shop Pro, Aperture, and Lightroom were all there. The last column was about Paint.NET. They used the same screenshot and logo from the getpaint.net homepage*. Though I can't recall what the article said word-for-word, this is what I do recall: *by the way, the logo looks horrible when printed in a magazine
  20. I know of a dandy little app called Exifer that can change the Metadata/EXIF of a JPEG or TIFF, but if you want to change the metadata of a PNG file [with the possibility of destroying it], try TweakPNG. Oh, and another vote for an EXIF plugin here
  21. Nice job with the reply, sabrown100... Michael: Yes, once you create a nub in the Curves adjustment window, you can re-locate the nub to any part of the rectangle And for future reference, you can also right-click on a nub to make it disappear (just in case you add one too many nubs).
  22. There's a nice little shareware application called STOIK that uses an algorithm called "smart interpolation" to resize images with superior accuracy. I was actually going to suggest implementing an algorithm like that a few months back, but had forgotten about it Links for the thinker's soul: http://www.stoik.com/stoik_smart_resizer/index.html http://www.dmi.unict.it/~battiato/downl ... 3_SIAD.pdf Unfortunately [or at least to my knowledge], it's impossible to create a plugin for this because Paint.NET doesn't allow a plugin to resize the canvas. However, that doesn't mean that Rick or Tom can't add that to Paint.NET's resize dialog.
  23. Well, for a fast grunge effect on your pictures, search Google images for "old paper", copy one of the pictures, paste into a new layer in Paint.NET [Ctrl+Shift+V], and play with the layer blending modes and colors through the layer window and the adjustments menu.

A couple of pictures to stare at: 300 [Delegates]! An idea I've had for a few months, never got to it until about a day ago. This is a concept for a new forum index UI. The Particle Cloud. The size of the circle is determined by an average of how popular the forum is, posts per day rate, and the number of posts you contributed to it. If by any chance this were to be put into reality, I'd hope that the particles will rotate in a peaceful ambiance. Yeah, I actually made this before the Pictorium forum
