As the title says ...

I used them in this:

If you've centred your object, running Radial Blur on the default settings will smooth the edges. This is a play around tut' ... as in play around and try different blend modes etc as the results vary.

Some I played around with:

As I say, these are all play arounds ... I remember there's some Condition Hue/ Saturation in the coloured one.
The shiney one, I made the circles ... duplicated the layer ... set blend mode to Negation ... then used Darken from the Adjustments menu on the layer below to get the bright silverish look.

Enjoy ... and remember to think outside of the box

I've edited your title a bit... Maybe consider putting the full images for the steps so people don't have to open several tabs or go back and forth? Also you might want to add some steps on how to make the "shiny button you're happy with." This is the Newbie Playground, after all :D

How to make shiney button in first step? I can not make it concave. I get just a circle. =)

Try using the plugin Shape3D over a canvas filled with uniform grey. You will need the sphere tab selected. Flatten the shape with "Depth Radius" in the "Sphere Size" part of the dialog.

Welshblue, you have a great idea but I must say that you should provide the steps (with pictures) to make the discs.
By the way, you could also start on a UFO tutorial; I don't think there is a single tutorial here yet on how to make a UFO or spaceship. Go ahead and add the steps to this tutorial. C'mon, don't you want me to give you a good rating?

It could also be used to make speakers.  Drop the bass and such.  I might use it later on.

The hardest part of ending is starting again.
