FROM AWARDS:

Excellent, excellent planet. Fantastic atmosphere, realistic texturing, good lighting, stars are great, and it's nice and sharp.

Even more amazing if 100% PDN, however I do realize combining stocks is a skill within itself as well.

EDIT: I see now you combined stocks, which like I said is an excellent skill anyway.

Since Nab has commented on my pic, I guess I'd better post the image. [Click for a bigger view]

Well, took me 3~4 days to get the planet straight, then 4 hours to finish the rest. Aside from the "stocks" mentioned in the link. It's all me, and it's all Paint.NET.

For people who want to get in on planet-like space art, this excellent tutorial by DevART user alyn has literally taken me all the way from this:

...to the pic shown above. Also, I'll try to post examples of the way I manipulate stocks, just so everyone has an idea of what "stock" means in my dictionary.

Your Gallery and tutorials were some of the ones that got me interested in PDN.

Thanks!

this is the best gallery for space scapes ever!

Wow, I am honored!

Your space-scapes..... ahhhh, they are one of my major envies on this forum!!

That's healthy, gives ya something to aspire to. :P

Absolutely amazing. Your PDN space skills give many PS space artists a run for their money. :P

I just have to know how you got the clouds like that. Smudge? Tut it please? or you can just post a mini no-picture tut in here if you want.

Great texture on the planet too. Alyn's tut is amazing for planets, just takes a bit of time to colour it properly. I like the starfield too.

Now for the critique (i just had to say a few things that seem wrong to me. )

The stars in the background don't look too varied. Maybe run clouds on top and blend mode multiply should help.

Another thing, is that the lighting looks somewhat wierd. Its fine at the top, but at the bottom the lighting just sort of stops and becomes shadow. I think it should fade out a bit more. Nice job on the dual lighting though. Its nice you didn't just use a simple linear reflected gradient, and actually manually did it. :)

KIU!

Merry Christmas

I've thought about posting a tut. For now, I can tell you that it involves blurred objects, and dents (the plugin, with size to the max and details about 3/4).

I can see what you mean about the stars. I do agree on the shadow. I could probably fix that, but it's already on DevART, and I don't feel like changing it. Thanks for the critique!

I really like the clouds (?) behind the planet, though some of them are a little dithered (?) on the right side. The planet looks really flabbergasting! Great work. Awesome work!

And the best part is, you are equally as capable of doing it as I am. You saw how humble my beginnings were...

*gapes in absolute awe* your spacescapes are more than awesome. more than purely perfect. they are *gapes further* words cannot describe their awesomeness. *jaw falls off*

THE LAST ONE IS AWSOME! is that 100%pdn?

All PdN made, correct.

Gah! Needs a mini-moon, on top of the planet, in the bottom corner. That would make it perfect. But the smudging, lighting and texturing are ABSOLUTELY FREAKING AWESOME.

That saves me some typing. QFT.

I think I'll attempt my 1st spacescape :)

Moons... would one of these do?

He did provide a link to a tut, which i think he half-used. It does takes time to reach Sozo's calibre of space art, loganart, but you can see that is possible. Just compare the difference between his first and latest.

It really takes a lot of time and practice to improve at something, in general, and especially in graphic arts. I'd advise looking around DevART for tutorials with space themes, there are literally dozens, and many of them can be translated to PdN with comparable results. Good luck!

Thanks to your most recent sigs you're now one of my favourite artists here. They're nothing short of stunning. I've searched up a lot of tuts myself and I've found them all too specialised towards photoshop, so do you do yours in PDn of PS? And how do you get textures? That was I problem I had when trying it. I've tried a few "mini" starscapes, but they aren't very good, and much easier to do textures for seeing a twirled clouds can easily look like a planet's surface. Anyways. Keep it up :)

Thank you. :)

I do indeed use Paint.NET, and I even use the Photoshop tutorials, I just 'translate' them on the fly. The best way to get better is to do your best to follow the tutorials, and practice. A lot. Good luck!
