AVI Frame Importer: AVIImport Version 4.0

141 posts in this topic

Not all videos work - only the ones supported by the Windows AVI library which this plugin is basically a wrapper for.

They work in Windows Media Player.

Just because they work in WMP doesn't mean they are supported by Windows' native AVI systems.

WMP is probably using a codec.

Hi, I just tried this, but the installer doesn't work.

Running Vista 32bit ( :( )

Here's what it spat out:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Several things:

  • That's not the plugin, it's a utility to configure it.
  • The link to the actual plugin was broken, which i've just fixed.
  • Plugins in the pack that one was in aren't supported.

OK, thought it was an installer of some sort. Thank you very much for fixing the link. I just want to try them out, see if I can do with them, what I want to. So, thanks again.

Since you included this in your index, I will assume you trust the safety & legality of this plug-in & program, EER. but I would like thoughts on this if you have any.

Inclusion in the Index makes NO recommendation on the Plugin at all. The fact that this is authored by Simon Brown means a great deal. I trust him and his work. Simon has been a longstanding and valued member of this forum and is a highly respected contributor.

If you have any worries over new plugins,scan them heavily before installing them.

sigh. well sorry EER & Simon Brown, but after looking up & downloading avi codex/players & copyright laws, I decided that I would rather not take the risks or become a part lawyer to use all this stuff legally. I'll be browsing other plug-ins now; although your pack seems to have some fun/useful plug-ins, SB.

Your loss.  I think you're thinking about this too much.

Think about this instead, the thread was started by Jan 01 2008 12:01 PM.  Thats five years ago.  Over 4561 downloads have been made in that time.

Simon was specifically asked if he had the legal right to use this program (http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/7488-avi-frame-importer-aviimport-version-40/?p=111615).  His answer was "yes".

I can also say that this is the only plugin that will allow you to attempt to open AVI files.

Thank you guys for bringing this to my attention. I can definitely use this seeing as my camera puts out .avi's and rendering in another format decreases the quality a little and screen shots are crappy. I will mess with it and see what happens,oh boy another toy.  :)    Now if someone would make one for .flm's I would be in heaven.  ;)

(my flying game records .flm's)

This plugin is no longer supported by @Simon Brown. That means there is unlikely to be any further development or remedies.
