Frames Effect Plugin

What's this?

I know, there are some borders effects plug-ins already available.

But I didn't find any of them able to do this kind of frame:

frames23.jpg

...till now!

Download it!

Plugin Frame.dll

Here is the DLL

The MadJik's All plugins package is available !

http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?showtopic=7186

How to install

Close Paint.net

Classic version of Paint.net

Unzip and (re)place the DLL in your Effect folder usually: C:/Program Files/Paint.NET/Effects

Microsoft Store version of Paint.net

Unzip and (re)place the DLL in your Effect folder usually: /My Documents/paint.net App Files/Effects/

You have to adapt for your language My Documents

The User interface

This plugin is added to the menu Effects, submenu Render.

frames_UI.png

Choose the frame mode:

...Single border using primary color.

...Single border using secondary color.

...Double border using both colors.

...Frame with two reversed corners.

...Frame with four reversed corners.

...Frame with middle face with two reversed corners.

...Frame with middle face with four reversed corners.

Distance from the edge (0,200, default=0):

It's the margin.

Width of external border (0,200,default=10)

Width of internal border (0,200,default=10):

Width of middle border (0,200,default=10)

it's the size of each single border.

Transparency level:

Choose the transparency amount. It works better if you create the frame on a new emply layer.

Or duplicate the layer with your image.

Options:

...Check for same width amount: If checked all borders widths use the ‘Width of external border’

...Invert Primary / Secondary colors: check to invert colors.

...Add lines: A small line is added between each border.

The third color in mode for the middle face is the average color of primary and secondary colors and

The color for the added lines is the negative of the third color.

Some examples:

Model of image used from my personal stock (a bee in my garden):

Wow, MadJik, at the moment you're in a plugin rage, aren't you?

You should change your username in "source of joy and happiness". This is really another good one, I think I'll use it quite often. Thank you very much. :D

NICE THIS FRAME BEATS OTHERS!

abc123qw, I'm neither a mod nor an admin, but I have to tell you that it is really dangerous on this forum to SHOUT. You are a member since june, and should know about this issue.

I don't doubt the plugin is great.

Wow. Nobody has posted about this plugin' for 8 years? At this time Paint.Net is at 4.0.21. I don't know if it's still an ongoing project. I've been using it for one year and no updates that I can remember.

If you're still out there MadJik, Kudos to you. I love your frames. Thanks for your time and effort. I was using Paint Shop Pro until I had no choice to upgrade to Windows 10, and PSP 7 no longer works after Windows 7. Anyway, in that program you could select the borders to go 'over' your image (like yours do), or have the border butt up to the edge of the image, so that none of the image becomes hidden by the border. I was curios if it would be a chore for you to add that option to this plugin? Thanks again ?

The canvas would need to be enlarged to accommodate the outset border, but plugins can't change the canvas size.

You'll need to enlarge the canvas yourself, beforehand.

(September 25th, 2023)  Sorry about any broken images in my posts. I am aware of the issue.

Hello @MadJik , I am having a little issue when creating frames. I had no problems with the blue one but when I made a long selection for the pink one It  did not look right.

@Major Thank you.

If you mean to have a frame outside the picture with a white gap between, like this:

frame1.png

You could draw a white frame first and another frame smaller. But they still overlay a part of the original image.

The idea of @toe_head2001 is the only way to keep the image intact.

@Eli this is an issue I added to my todo list. Thanks for the report (the only one in 10 years!)

The frame works well with no selection (full canvas).
