... would you really want there to be ?
Personally I'd have thought subscription over conscription is better. If I was press-ganged into religion I'd begin to resent it; where-as now I'm more than happy to respect and to live alongside

The video ... nice sounding vocals, although I can't help thinking of Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill as I listened to it ...

Twas sarcasm, I hope your response was sarcasm too.
I love the song - it's one of my favorite Christian songs.
I'm also subscription over conscription, as if they are forced to believe it they won't believe it - they would just put on a mask and say they do (metaphorically).

I thought I ought to put a mildly-humorous post into the rants thread.

The hardest part of ending is starting again.

I think I preferred thinking of it as irony, And nope, I wasn't being sarcastic. Just being me. Saying what I think about a post. I appreciate good sounding music, even if I don't always agree with the lyrics. Plus the vocalist has a nice voice ... and from approx' 17 seconds into the track I do get an urge to play Kate Bush after listening to it

Each to their own mate. Live and let live etc on the religion front, is what I subscribe to. I'm an atheist who also respects the people who want to worship @ whichever denomination. One day one of us either side of the fence is wrong <: end of my discussion on religion smiley :>

A rant. 2 hours of washing and polishing the car ... totally wiped out by the forces of mother nature. Hot, dry weather. Then a couple of hours of sporadic gusting winds. Lots of abrasive dust blowing off the ground. I'm never getting a black car ever again. Nightmares to keep clean in any season, and show up every scratch.

... So why the frick can't people use common sense and not lean on or brush against a big mass of steel that is someone else's :black:

Black cars, yeah so hard to keep clean. Why DO people have an insatiable need to lean on cars, esp. when wearing jeans?? Usually find it is people that don't own a car. Found someone had used my bonnet as a picnic table at work, leaving a plastic cup on the bonnet. Only just resisted the urge to remove it with one swipe & only then because it may have added a scratch. If the culprit had to scrimp & save to pay for it, working their guts out at manual labour like I had to, they would empathise completely & not have done it.

My rant: in our workplace we have a communal kitchen & restrooms. Recently, some nice signs were created by my students urging folk to clean up after themselves esp. in the restrooms where the used paper hand-towels overflowed the bin to the point of almost making it out the door. Our company thinks we should be responsible for our own cleaning. Fine. I have replaced the toilet seat & each day for a month cleaned the restroom, only to find it inn a deplorable state the next day, so I gave up. I have my own tea/coffee facilities complete with tiny little cute fridge & kettle. Communal sink so full of dirty dishes I cannot fill the kettle. Resited urge to put dirty dishes in bin. Lo & behold - new signs up urging us to clean up after ourselves!

Short version: Why is it that the people who put the signs up urging us to clean up after ourselves are the ones who make the mess!!

Because what they really mean is not "clean up after ourselves" but rather "clean up after me". They just don't actually say it cause it's rude. (Plus they notice the messes more when it's their own doing) :)

I think a lot of these fall more into the "mine vs everyone else's" vs "have and have not's". People have more respect for their own stuff vs someone else's stuff (though I know people who don't have respect for things regardless of who's it is). Even in the case of communal areas, the attitude seems to be, it's not mine so why should I care?

I myself have contributed silverware at work at least 2 times for everyone to utilize (generally I bring my own, but now and then forget it myself so having some at work would serve me as well when this happens), only to find either people won't clean them and put them away, or they take them home for their own personal collection. I won't do that anymore.

I respect mine more, unless my stuff has been violated recently. Then I remember not to mess with someone else. That, and the more the people around me do it the worse I do it to them. Sometimes, I just need vengeance - or my mood sinks. When I calm down my anger, it becomes sadness and the state of being unsatisfied no matter what happens. Not a fun state. Anyways, I don't think that's right with the silverware and all.

It got to 20 degrees (F) in northern Florida when I lived there. A nice, refreshing feel though.

I prefer to think of myself as patriotic rather than xenophobic but with the Olympic torch going through my hometown today and not one of the 3 carriers being Welsh.
2 fingers up to Owain Glyndwr and the town he chose as his parliament base

Then there's the whole Olympic thing ... families living in poverty in the UK after austerity cuts and the government are throwing billions at it. Good for the well-being of the countries that make up not so Great anymore Britain ... or the egos of the politicians and committees ??

Bring on the revolution ...

Not sure how to respond. I certainly hope it doesn't come to that (there or anywhere), but I fear the trend worldwide seems to point to that.

Just ranting mate.

Although I am perturbed how the government are making cuts that affect the not so well off in society whilst seeming to protect the richest.
Take my local councillors - they make cuts to meals on wheels for the elderly, highway improvements, social services etc etc which will all have adverse effects ... but vote to give themselves an increase in salary, when 000's are losing their jobs. Nice work if you can get it.
Then there's the increase in alcohol duty ... but only beers and wines - not the spirits that a lot of the 'more well of' prefer. It's just tax upon tax and then a bit more tax

And don't get me started on fuel prices. £6.50 a gallon ($11'ish) which drives up prices in the shops ... and most of that 6.50 is tax.

I think I'll run for parliament ... £90,000 a year and all the expenses I can get away with fiddling (allegedly)

Just had my bike stolen by some low life piece of scum, went into town to drop a dvd off took bike in shop with me turned around for 2 mins and it was gone, worst thing is they had the video cameras turned off and there was a police officer in the shop at the same time. Bikes worth $3,400's and to say I'm pissed is understatement of the year. Why do people feel they have a right to take things that are not theirs, I think the Saudis have the right idea cut off their hands. I use my bike everyday getting to and from work and into town as there is no public transport out where I live now I have no transport.

@#$% them all.

$11 a gallon? It's less than that in the US.
Ought to go ahead and have a revolution :P

Edit: @Minners71, that sucks... There's no way to put any sugar on it. That's just bad luck.
