Light Rays (update YMD:170928)

Recommended Posts

Settings: Defaults 'cept for Alpha Gradient and Position middle left. Then when "number of rays" is changed it crashes.

Image Size:900 x 1200

PC Config: XP home edition, SP2, 512 RAM, 2.40 GHz

Tricky bug linked to the gradient stuff.

I've fixed it. Download the DLL again, and test (I can't reproduce the bug any more)...

I've added an error handling. In some case one ray won't be drawn :(

And oh! I've build it with the V3.22 Beta, I'm not sure it will work for v3.20...

Plugin LightRays.dll

Here is the zip for the DLL

Please read the rules. You MUST have the latest version of Paint.NET to seek support here.

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

Feature Requests:

1. Add an option to control the point from which the rays emanate...

file.php?id=2302&sid=1c6e0aca2dfc8fff9d2aeb97f64464fa&mode=view

Maybe you could call it an "internal radius"...?

2. Add an option to randomize the ratio and length of the bars from bar to bar.

3. Add option for end caps (like the line tool) for the ends of the rays, when the length doesn't cover the entire canvas.

Thanks for considering these requests. :D

1. That's a new idea for this effect, I will try it.

2. Already think of it and it wasn't simple, let's see it again...

3. I'm not drawing lines, I'm drawing polygons (triangles), to add end caps I will have to create complex polygons (HARD).

Great work! I love the randomness options!

There's a few problems...the 'Internal Radius' should control the start point of the rays(triangles); so the internal ends of the rays should come to a point.

Also, when using the 'Internal Radius' I get random banding(?) in the preview render, and sometimes in the final render. See below:

It can't be in this way or you want you have a gap between each ray. Try to do it by hand with 6-8 rays...

2.

It took me a long time to test and try to tackle this problem I don't have it any more on any of my computers (2 pcs 1 laptop, all XP).

Could you tell me the setting you've used, and how often it happens?

I downloaded - it's very well done. An extra basic effect can achieve the pic below. Ofcourse, it doesn't look very cool yet, but just with some simple distorting it could look interesting.

1. Do a normal light ray effect. Do whatever you want, but don't have blurs. I would suggest around 35 rays.

2. Make your first color slightly changed (I just made it a little darker) and your second color transparent.

3. Perform the effect again, but change the number of rays by a bit.

Do that on another layer and then flatten if you'd like.

So, I have a problem... My goal is to have my sun flare fade, yet it ain't so... how can I do this? (I just spent so long trying to do this and searching for it so I'm really tired... I probably missed something obvious.) Thank you guys :D
