It's not that the non-programmer or non-mathematician is trying to be a bothersome bumbling idiot some likely wonder how we put our pants on every morning or put a spoon full of food actually in our mouth, as opposed to in our eye socket or ear, it has to do with who a "techie" is able or willing to acknowledge as a user, with regards to instructions. So, I'm now understanding the plugin is also made for programmers and their use of it, too. That's a bonus and helpful to programmers. Very cool.

On another note, many will hope for more easier to understand instructions, that have nothing to do with programming, as we persevere on, hoping to figure things out here and there, hoping when issues and questions are posted by others, who are also confoosed, that it will be found in the vast ocean of posts, grateful to even have some take the time to bother with us 'Morlock-ish peasants' who should know what stuff means like page 22 of the manual: "If an individual Path is closed sing this feature...." .....sing the feature? So, I began singing, yet, while singing, I was still confoosed. So I sang louder, yet I was still confoosed.

I'm sure a programmer or the Sheldon Cooper's of the world will know exactly what all of that is, but for the average user of the plugin, the average user is still simply hoping to create an object one can zoom in close enough to see and begin the journey of why defects show up when it otherwise looked fine within the plugin and in the outline form, but not in fill or fill outline. When I save my created image in the plugin to an xaml file, I do the 'eeeny meeny' option, since both save it to .xaml without either stating they save the file as .xaml....just in case.

This, in no way means every thing all of you have done and continue to do is not appreciated--at all, whatsoever! It's just that a lot of people who are still very talented and who make beautiful things with PDN, learn a bit differently, and really want to get it, too. It is another, yet large, audience of PDN users. We just have trouble understanding high level technical manuals and answers, but be clear, they are beautiful and well written technical answers, mind you.

Perhaps instructions, or at least in parts, for us seemingly Morlock-ish/peasant users could be contemplated?

Ok, my forum friends, blast away until your hearts are content. Join ranks. Go along to get along. I can take it. I'm in this for the long haul, too.

It is discussed in the second tutorial video and to have the fills alternate correctly does require some planning. I'll create a football (soccer ball) example and post it.

TR...I would also like to see how you accomplish the soccer ball correctly.

I am also having some difficulty with some of my shapes in Fill Mode. No matter how many different ways I try it, they still come out 'distorted' like the example Scrapbook posted.

I have watched your (2) videos many times and think I understand it; then I go do a shape and BAM! there's those distortions again. Am I missing something?

I do understand that the plugin is based on geometry and that by leaving a line path 'unclosed' in the Path List will cause the program to automatically close it by drawing a line. And that is what causes the distortions. Some shapes I just can't figure out how to close properly. There has to be an easy solution that we can all understand.

Thank you for all you do and the awesome plugin Shapemaker!    :)

I have fixed the Rolling Stone's shape for Fill Mode. That one was not that hard! Others are more troublesome.

It is now rendering correctly.

For the fill rules to be applied correctly the Shape must be closed correctly. That is, it needs to be composed from individually closed regions. For complex images this can take quite a bit of planning.

The best way I can explain this is to imagine your Shape is made from cut-out bits of paper. Each piece of paper has one continuous edge around the outside of it. If you follow this edge around from any point, you will end up back at the same start point.

PS It's not under Effects > Advanced for nothing ;) You guys are doing really well with your Shapes.

@EER...thank you so much for those words of encouragement!

I can definitely see that with a complex shape you would probably have to 'map it out' on paper to be successful. I think we were treating it simply as a 'tracing tool'. But it is so much more.

Yes, advanced indeed!   Thanks, again, for this great plugin.    :)

P.S.  Re-watching TR's videos has helped me a great deal, but I still want to see him tackle the soccer ball!   ;)

Hello. :)

I forget when, but a while back one of the updates to shapemaker made my UI odd. Sorry for not mentioning this until now.

Anyways, here is a screen cap. There UI is big and has a blank area to the right.
http://s5.postimg.org/dao7vz1ef/Shape_Maker_UIOdd.jpg

The above image also shows what the drawing area looks like when I first open shapemaker and do nothing. Aside from the large blank area of the UI, the drawing area is normal, I think?
However, I took notice that I think my zoom is actually not functioning the way it should. I've had this zoom issue since the beginning, I just didn't realize that maybe things aren't suppose to behave the way they do for me.

Basically, when I first open shapemaker, the drawing area looks like my above image and what I've seen from pictures other people have posted, so I assume that that's what it's supposed to be like.
The issue happens when I zoom in and then zoom back out.

I bet this does have something to do with your DPI setting of 120.00 (1.25x scale)?

Just out of interest, try altering that setting what happens?

Everything you need is in the kitten video - I'm in the process of editing the new video because I have to go back and forth between the render in the editing so you can see how little changes make the shape behave in PDN. Here's a clue you need 2 outer borders to reverse the fill. Here's a second clue - connecting lines have to be double.

I was in ignorant bliss about the 'fill' problem until I watched the great video tutorial by TR, for which many thanks.

However, sometimes the funny fill is rather cute IMHO :D .

I didn't know it was tested up to 150, I have my dpi at 125%. I figured it was a DPI compatibility issue, since when I tested EER's suggestion by changing my DPI to normal, it solved the issues.
My preference is 125% though.

Not sure if this info is needed, but I have a 23" monitor, it's resolution is 1920 x 1080. To make things easier to see, I have it set to the 125% DPI.

Since we have a couple different conversations going on in this thread, just to keep things straight, my issues are what I mentioned here : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/32096-shapemaker-by-the-dwarf-horde-sept-22-2015/?p=433895

I didn't know that the fill problem was fixable, now that I know I'll try to redo a couple of mine. :)

It can be an asset though.  The pinwheel flowers I made was with Lynxster's 5 petal flower shape in fill mode.

http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/32343-lynxster4s-nature-pack/?p=431729

And I replied to your post with:  "That is just beautiful! I love what you did with the flowers!"

I thought you intentionally colored them in like that, making that diagonal line yourself. I never thought to test them in Fill or Fill with Outline. I was totally focused on Outline.

I apologize to everyone that some of my shapes in my four posted packs are not correct in Fill or Fill with Outline. I have no time to fix them. If anyone wants to fix some, please feel free to do so.

Future packs will be correct!

Ditto what @Lynster says :arrow-up: as I've only just noticed this after making my packs.  I suspect this is going to be a problem with anything more than a few lines.  I've tried to 'clone' some lines in my animal packsince, and it's proving to be rather difficult :/ .

Also, I notice that:

1.  The cubic spline stops working after a certain amount of clicks, so I assume it is set to a certain number ?
2.  To my detriment ..... I discovered you can only have 100 layers ;) I'll be more careful now

I made my heart shapes early on and just figured that the bugs hadn't been worked out of ShapeMaker yet. I thought it was known that the fill didn't always turn out looking right, but I thought the pinwheel look was really cool. I apologize that I didn't catch your meaning. And I apologize, BoltBait, for using the Application shape as an example. Maybe Draw Filled Shape just won't work for everything. :/

OK, after testing and re testing, at least on Windows 7, a .xaml file 43kb will jam up Paint.Net (freezes from the initial opening of PDN when said file has been put into the Shapes file folder prior to opening PDN). I even took out everything in the Shapes file folder except for Bolt Bait's shape pack and the one image I made with ShapeMaker.

Maybe I missed reading there is a file size limit to a ShapeMaker created file?

Has anyone else, on Windows 7, made an image in ShapeMaker over 30kb? What about 40kb? PDN just hangs/freezes and stays in a state of "Not Responding".

Anyone else notice this?

I made one at 4kb and thought that was huge! ;)

'Shapes' were originally intended for relatively simple re-useable images, rather than a substitute for clip art. Do consider simplifying your shape.

Having said that, thanks for reporting this. Shapemaker shouldn't be capable of creating shapes that can crash Pdn.

I thought the path/points limits would prevent this?

Can you upload the (zipped) xaml shape for testing please.

Hi, I saw this pic, and I love the heart shape. Is there a properly functioning fill version now? And is it available for download?

Yes a multi-z was added to allow different styles of lines to close as a shape, but you still have to pay attention to the rules of nesting. Can't break the rules.

Go out there and be amazing. Have Fun, TR
