Try disabling "Hardware accelerated rendering (GPU)" to see if that fixes the problem for you.

This can be disabled by:

-Running paint.net

-Click the gear in the upper right corner

-Uncheck "Hardware accelerated rendering (GPU)" on the User Interface tab of the Settings dialog box.

-Click Close

It ranges between 50x50 to 500x500 and yes i have disabled Hardware accelerated rendering and nothing.

Specs:

Ram: 6.00GB

Processor: Intel Pentium CPU P6100 @ 2.00GHz 2.00GHz

If you need any more info just ask.

What about disabling "Animations" in Settings? Someone else stumbled upon that as a fix for another problem they were having

Apparently that fixed it! (for now) Thanks a lot! If it starts happening again i'll get back to you guys. :)

If you have the proper technical skills, you could attach an instance of WinDbg to paint.net to see what it's doing when it stops responding.

It's not an easy program to learn though.

(September 25th, 2023)  Sorry about any broken images in my posts. I am aware of the issue.

You'd be better off attaching Visual Studio 2013, breaking in, and looking at the parallel thread stacks. Using Windbg is way more estoria than needed for this.

I tried installing an older version I had tucked away from ages ago v3.5 and that works fine. Seems to be just v4.0 upwards.
