This is an updated & simplified version of the 'corrigated cardboard' Tutorial by @oma. Because of the black magic that is paint.net v4, we no longer need to use two of the plugins that were required in Oma's tutorial. We will also use the AA's_Assistant plugin instead of the Old Feather plugin. Other than that, all the steps are the same and will produce the same outcome.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You'll need to install a few plugins, if you don't have them already:

Now that you got the plugins installed, let's begin.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Set your Primary Color to BCAB85

2) Set your Secondary Color to A18F6A

3) Use the Gradient ( :GradientTool:) tool to make a Linear gradient ( :LinearClampedGradient:) with the Repeat Reflected ( :GradientRepeatTypeReflected:) . It should measure a length of 6px and have an angle of 90 degrees

4) Duplicate Layer ( :LayersDuplicateLayer: )

5) Change the Visibility of the bottom layer to hidden

6) Select the top layer

7) Use the 'Motion Blur' ( :MotionBlurEffect:) effect with an Angle of 90 degrees... other parameters stay at default values

😎 Use the Lasso Select ( :LassoSelectTool:) tool to select a wavy ripped edge on the cardboard.

9) Delete the selection.

10) Use the 'AA's_Assistant' (aa.png) plugin with it's default values

11) Use the Lasso Select ( :LassoSelectTool:) tool again to select a ripped surface on the cardboard.

12) Use the 'Brightness / Contrast' adjustment with the brightness set at 25... the parameter stays at its default value

13) Deselect ( :EditDeselect: )

14) Use the 'Drop Shadow' (ds.png) plugin with Widening Radius at 0, Blur Radius at 2, Shadow Color at Black... other parameters stay at default values

15) Change the Visibility of the bottom layer to visible

Age is only  a number --in my case a Really BIG number, but there you have it

When the prefect paint.net image is created, I will still be wondering "How they Do that?"- sigh☺️

No problem. I just want to point out again that @oma is the one that originally came up with the process back in 2008. I just updated and simplified the steps.

hmm...looks like someone got bored and tried to tear off the tape on one side of a box.
