Hi,

I am using Vista and have tagged some JPG files. The problem is now, that Paint.NET can't open this files anymore.

You can download one image here.

Please help. What can I do?

Bye

When I open that image with the debugger attached it just spits out the good ol' fashioned "A generic error ocurred in GDI+" exception. Sounds like the image is malformed, like BoltBait said.

What software did you use to create the JPG files?

That software is not creating a properly formed JPG file.

You didn't use your arrow plugin!

I used Windows XP and the integrated Copy-Pictures-From-Digicam-Assistant. The properties of this file with Vista shows the resolution und bit depth correctly, but I can't open the file even with the normal MS Paint.

Did the JPG open correclty with Paint.NET before being "tagged" with Vista?

The JPG opens correctly with Paint.NET before that.

It seems not to be a problem of Paint.NET at all, because other softwares can't open it too.

How can I fix the JPG? Has someone an idea?

By the way, is this weird bug solvable:

?

No. Way. I've just seen Bob. And... *poof!*—just like that—he disappears into the mist again. ~Helio

Yes, I have a bug filed for that. It's an easy fix, it's just a matter of finding enough little bugs to fix to warrant a 3.01 update. And by that I mean that this one little bug does not by itself warrant going through the process of packaging and releasing a 5mb update to hundreds of thousands of users :) But luckily (?) for us I have some other bug fixes I need to push out, so you should see this fixed fairly soon (within a few weeks).

phunkydizco, Can you do me a favor? Can you e-mail me the original image, the "broken image", and a list of instructions for "breaking" the image? You said that you tagged it in Windows Vista, for instance, but it would really help me if I had a dummy-proof list of instructions (pretend I'm having my mom go through the steps or something). If this is a problem in Vista then I would like to file a bug on them* and track it.

The e-mail to send it to is paint.net@hotmail.com

* Remember: I work for Microsoft. I can do this quite easily :)
