Installing .Net Framework 4.5

Hello,

 

I like the new features of Paint.NET 4.0.

It requires .Net Framework 4.5 but I can not install the official software because Windows XP support has been dropped.

Is there any way to get the newest features without .NET Framework 4.5?

If there is no way - okay - updating is not always required.

You need Windows 7 or higher in order to run V4+ of paint.net. Running Windows XP and using the internet is a risky business, very prone to all kinds of viruses and other nasty things, I know upgrading comes with a price, but it has been mentioned on this forum before, you REALLY can't afford not to upgrade.

Stop saying this, as it's simply not true.

Those folks who don't know what they are doing will get "viruses and other nasty things" (including the dreaded "life-altering identity theft") using whatever Windows they have, be it 7, 8, or 100500.

Those who do know what they are doing are perfectly fine with whatever OS/Paint.NET version they are getting their work done with.

BTW, your documentation still says

 

Minimum Requirements

• Windows 7 (recommended)
• or Windows Vista
• or Windows XP (SP2 or later)
• .NET Framework 3.5 SP1

Fix it or something, already.

I agree, with FinnTroll. Windows XP runs on my Computer since 5 years without any virus.

Pre-emptive NOTE: Please do not ask me to add support for Vista or XP. It's not that your request is lame or invalid or anything, it's just not going to happen (sorry, I'm just being honest!).

I mean, it should be possible to keep the compability with older systems and at the same time it is possible to extend the program with new features.

 

I do not plan to use Windows 7, 8 or 10, rather I will switch to Linux.

It's not only the framework, but the entire OS as well. Here's how it works...

"Hi. I'm paint.net and I'm trying to install myself. Gee - you look old, can you handle xyz and abc?? No?? I guess I'll stop then."

 

So if the developer knows that an OS will not support the software - then there is no point in doing a feature check.

 

I mean, it should be possible to keep the compability with older systems and at the same time it is possible to extend the program with new features.

It wastes the developers time trying to patch his code to work with ancient, outdated OS's.
