Crash on open after 4.0.2 update

Ever since I loaded the update, Paint crashes seconds after it opens. I never had any problems with it before this. Any help will be welcome!

Also make sure that your video card drivers are up-to-date, and that you also have all Windows Updates installed.

 

This is not it. I made sure everything had been updated and tried to re-install and it is still not working. I'm usually able to figure these things out, but I've never had this type of error before.

I've discovered this SO thread that seems to have good results in deactivating Nvidia Network Manager.  Are you running that utility?

You ran the .REG file which disables hardware acceleration?

Rick, I don’t know if this is related, but I had a look at what changed between yesterday (when Paint.net worked) and today (when it crashed).

 

The answer: Microsoft Office. I installed it to try something for a client. Upon removal, Paint.net went back to normal.
